Need some help with combo choice

Hello,

I'm taking baby steps into losec after a few months of hisec mining and hauling with my main + alt.

I'd like to do some exploration with a covops equipped Pilgrim all-in-one fit. I've found a nice loadout and I'm on my way to training for it. Btw I've heard a T3 strategic cruiser is much better for exploration fits/WHs, but I can't afford to fly one right now.

I have an alt which I've been using for hauling ore recently. I'd like her to fulfil a complimentary role in my new ventures into lowsec.

What I'd like is a nice PvP boat that I can use to back up my Pilgrim in case I get scanned down or caught in a radar/mag site fighting NPCs (will otherwise be cloaked in a safe spot, but the actual running of complexes etc. will be where I'm most at risk).

I was thinking of training up to use this Sentinel fit which would work really nicely against frigates and perhaps destroyers/cruisers too. Though I'm being told that I will find more BC/BS in low sec than I will frigates.

So can you guys give me any good recommendations for an alt boat that will be useful for my aims? (Protect the drone boat where necessary, be suitable to opposition likely to be found in losec).

Thanks

What other situations would you use a sentinel in? In other words, if this fails will you ever use the sentinel for anything else given that your plan fails. Electronic Attack Frigates aren't that great at the moment. I would invest some time in maybe a RR Dominix or something cheap and quick experience something you could use for something else you would like to do in the long run. Also it takes a bit of time to get LVL 5 in Electronic Attack Frigates, which makes a huge difference with the bonuses on the ship. You could invest that time training something else.

To each their own, try it, learn it, adapt, there is no right or wrong way. Keep toying with different ships, make your own fits, they will help you understand exactly what you're doing with your ship. Go lose some ships and learn what you could of done different in the situation or what mods you could of had that would of made a difference and build off that.

If I were you, I'd maybe try a Vagabond or Ishtar for your alt, learn to use both your accounts to their fullest and use the Vagabond/Ishtar for extra DPS against the rats and still be able to hold off a variety of ships that might scan you down and try to attack. The possibilities are endless, the choice is completely yours.

Well I'd liked to be a useful asset in a PVE or PVP fleet one day.. so being specialised and highly skilled in an EWAR boat is a good thing to aim for, right?

It's about 28 days to use it, but then more to be really competent with it. So I see what you mean.

Perhaps I should jump in a cheap Rifter? Just so it's replaceable. I can see where you're coming from with being very open and experimental etc. though you have the benefit of hindsight and as a new player, someone's got to tell you the basics at one point. When I feel comfortable I'll be trying new things but for now, I'd just like a bit of solid advice which won't be 100% perfect for my situation but will fare me well.

If you get cought, you are doing it wrong. There is no reason to ever die in a pilgrim in lowsec. EVER. Find an empty lowsec system and do your exploration there. You will see there are a TON of empty lowsec systems. Keep an eye on local if you see someone come into the system, start d-scanning to see what he is flying. IF its not a cloaky then just change your d-scan range to shorter range (500,000.000km) and d-scan like crazy. If you see a ship on d-scan just warp out. IF it is a cloaky that can kill you just leave the system and try your luck elsewhere.

If you want your alt to save your butt when taged, a falcon would be a good choise

Thanks, some helpful advice in there that I will definitely take into account!

Also, will I be completely safe when cloaked up and in a safe spot? Or can they still scan me down?

As soon as you're cloaked, you cannot be scanned down at all.

if you're using two accounts, then use one as a dedicated prober-scout and the other as the main dps/tank. A good mix would be a HAC and a covops frig, or you can use a non bonused ship like a pilgrim as the dedicated scout, and also use it for supplemental dps and salvage/hacking or even remote rep drones. Don't plan on getting your plexing ship jumped, it will be a sitting duck, and trying to dual box a second ship to save it is a recipe for disaster. Instead focus on adequately scouting and supporting your main plexing ship.

If you're thinking of using a pilgrim, i would suggest using scan strength rigs with a set of rep drones, ecm drones, and damage drones. salvagers for highslots and profession mods in the mids. For the main ship a zealot or a harbinger would work nicely. Depending on the region you're exploring, the pilgrim scout will help you avoid any nasty surprises.

"**CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"**

Never forget.

I think you're aiming a bit too high with the ship tbh. Losec exploration sites can mostly be done in an AF. Buy yourself a covops, buy an AF, save all that money from the pilgrim, and save it only needing one account too. And to anyone that thinks you can't lose a pilgrim in losec probably haven't flown one. It is a cow, a big fat cow of a cow. Time it takes to get to warp is crazy.

Edit
And don't worry too much about speccing for an ewar ship for pvp just yet, you're still just getting your feet wet. Get into a dps ship for fleets for the moment, learn how they work then figure out what you'd like to do
