No, they don't. Eve is based around player interaction, not ai interaction. What CCP needs to do (and are doing) is improve the tools for said player interactions and add new ones. PvE in eve is a way of making isk. And it should remain relatively boring in order to discourage the players from doing too much of it. Having more players that are only interested (or even mainly interested) in pve is bad for the game.

PVE = bigger population = more subscribers = more money to spend on game designers = more improvements to the game as whole = bad for the game

Your math is interesting.

SOE said that about SWG and casual gamers. You are just as wrong as they were.
Casual gaming had nothing to do with wh at SOE did. What SOE did was destroy the game as players new it and that resulted in a massive backlash joined in by the casuals at the time. I knew many casual SWG players who hated the changes (this one included).

Despite those proclaiming that almost everyone who plays this game thinks it's "all pvp all the time" the surveys keep showing that the majority of the players are engaging in pve activities most of the time. This is of course when people come along and try their hardest to redefine PVE activities as HARDCORE PVP!!!1.. lol

Really…? Could you provide a link to such a survey?

The last one I saw showed that PvP was the most liked activity in EVE…

It's busier in winter. Lots of people taking sick days off, plenty of over time to be done at double the normal pay rate.

I have only been playing for 2+ months but the numbers online I see are up on weekends anyway. Weekdays they are about the same over my playing career. So when you are talking about lower numbers what is your time frame reference?

I assume you mean recent developments like the last month or so. And I just do not see it.

It is one of three things, or a combination of them:

1. Numbers are down on a temporary basis because of numerous real life distractions/ economics that will pass and numbers will return to the 50k-ish peaks.

2. A number of people have become fed up with the direction of the game that CCP is allowing its developers to take it, and unsubbed all or many of their accounts in protest (I have. This is my only paying account presently.) If and when subs drop to some threshold, CCP may clue in and the responsible parties will be removed from positions where they can damage the game, the damage reversed, and the subs might increase again if the protesters are satisfied.

3. There is a systemic problem with the game, be it the existing in-game mechanics, the meta-gaming, the stagnation of null, etc. (it really could be a ton of systemic factors), and people are bored with the game and have left permanently. This could be a huge problem if true.

I believe that it is mostly #2 with a bit of #1 and #3.

But regardless of what anyone posts on the forums, only CCP can understand the subscription numbers and what / if any problem they are having. And CCP is the only one that can fix it.

Frankly, I don't care that much these days.

Either there are subscription issues and CCP will fix them, or there are no sub issues.
If the former, then I may re-engage myself with the game.
If the latter, well then, eventually my ISK buffer for plexes runs out and I stop logging on.

I, too, strive to get people fired over a personal grudge.

Very nicely written.

I think the problem is more like an equal amount of #2 and #3, plus the fact that Eve Online has turned into Griefer Online.

"has turned into"... wait... what?

if by "has turned into" you really meant "TQ went live", then sure. this game has always... ALWAYS had griefers. welcome to the Internet™.
