Portrait generation errors and data loss

I create a new character, choose race and blood lines, etc. Proceed through character customization, mostly just using random generation until I find something I like.

On loading the portrait screen, there is an error message saying that I have no selection saved in the top, bottom, and feet slots.

If I go back and choose items for these slots manually it will proceed, and let me create the character.

Loading the character a few hours later, the server-generated portrait is nothing like the character appearance I chose. I now have an avatar who is completely bald and not wearing the outer jacket that was present client-side.

I can reproduce this behavior on both Win7 and Mac OS.

The behavior seems to be related to the randomization of appearance. Any attribute I manually set during customization seems to be retained and rendered in the server-side portrait. Anything that was left at a random value, however, is ignored in the final render. Hence the lack of a jacket, hair, eyebrows etc etc.
