Can an Orca fit combat related warfare links? The description seems to indicate it can but it would not get the 3% indie command ship bonus for mining forman links.

Sounds like by not answering your question, yabba actually answered your question.

Yes but.. why would you?

Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Because only one of the mining links make any real difference whereas the tanking links can be very beneficial…

I imagine you're referring to the link that reduces miner cycle times, but the miner range link can also provide some significant benefits. You have to move around less while mining in belts, you can start mining sooner in random belts, and it cuts down on the number of bookmarks you need to keep to mine out whole belts. The lower movement aspect in turn means you can more easily use your orca as a hauler instead of sacrificing a mining character to hauling the ore. That works by, ironically in light of how many praised the orca as eliminating this aspect of mining, going back to the old jet can mining method.

That, however, is mining ore. When mining ice range is completely irrelevent, just like miner capacitor usage under any circumstances but those of the most extreme idiocy such as retriever pilots trying to pulse their stupidly every 20 seconds or so.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to say that ease of play is better than survival, but when your best survival tactic is "run and hide" it seems to me that being able to start mining faster and mine with less hassle is equally worth living a bit longer during and potentially escaping a rousing match of surprise pirate butt sex. Less risk of losing a ship versus more money to spare when you do lose a ship. /shrugs.

Depends. High sec the range link is good, especially when you're in compact belts - you never have to move or jet with an Orca sat next to you. In null sec I prefer the yield link + T2 shield harmonising link, giving the Hulks extra resists. It's especially useful if you fit the hulks with mining upgrades instead of a full tank. Some rat spawns can really hurt a poorly tanked hulk. I also fit a T2 shield transfer in the 3rd Orca slot because it can take a while to kill rat spawns with drones.

It's convenient to use other types of links when you're using the orca as a mobile base of operations for other things. A lot of incursion runners have orca alts that double as makeshift OGBs when needed.

the only mining link really worth it's salt is the one that reduces cycle time. when mining with covetors the capacitor link can be helpful for doing half cycles. the range one has made me lose cycles on multiple occasions and i just don't even use it. i like to fit the extra 2 highs on an orca with tractor and salvager or shield harmonizer and tractor.

you might want to keep a noctis in the bay to clean the wrecks and you could use range, cycle time and harmoniing link. i personally love to salvage the wrecks as the rare officer spawns and alloyed trit bars and armor plates REALLY add up for extra income, and at times make for en extra bit of excitement when you get good loot or T2 salvage.

Could a small PvP gang use an ocra for combat support?

Even a sandbox has borders to keep the sand inside...

Wait, I think you mean Orca. Ocra is a fantastic vegetable, especially if it's fried or, even better, deep fried. Cool
