Like it. Will look better in 720p if that becomes the resolution for the group stages. I'm not a huge fan of mirroring the overview tables, and the typeface could be better, but it is a drastic improvement over previous years.

I think the new info at the bottom of the screen is a nice addition this year. Basically what you get that's new this year is:

1) EWAR icons next to ships - Very Cool*
2) Speed of ships - Cool
3) Points cost of ships - Quite Nice
5) Lots of white space - :(
4) Webcam of commentators in bedrooms - Not Cool At All

* The ECM icon shows up whenever a bunch of ECM drones are assigned to a target, or whenever an ECM module is activated on a target, regardless of whether or not there is a successful jam. I would like to see CCP fix it so that the icon only shows on successful jams - currently it is even confusing the commentators (is that a shield boosting blackbird!?) let alone the viewers.

The tactical zoomed out tactical display is way too small, but I wouldn't want it to replace the main screen of srsbsns spaceship explosions.

I don't want to see John Motson when I'm watching the FA Cup final, and I don't what to see MBIII unless he is drunk on an alliance panel. Bringing the 'off duty' commentators in for the studio fills between matches worked fine last year - don't change it. Also bring back Shadoo at all costs.

My suggestion for layout would be to ditch the webcam box, move the team info out into the bottom corners, using white or light coloured text and bars on a transparent background (ie showing mostly dark space action behind) and get rid of the blank white rubbish completely. Then use the extra space created in the centre for an enlarged visual of the tactical display. Maybe periodically cut away from the action for 5-10 seconds to show the tactical display (with ship labels) full-screen.

That's just it, the window of the map and the guys face could be combined into one large image of the tactical view. check out my picture I made. it needs some work but yeah.

Yes, like this! The white background here even works.

The new info is fantastic, it just needs a layout adjustment. The tactical view is 3.7x more useful than whatever random camerawork is being followed to show pretty lights. I'd rather see much more of the tactical view.

EDIT: Oh, and yeah, the mirrored shield/armor/structure readout was confusing. Don't do that. Bad UI team.

I don't judge people by their race, religion, color, size, age, gender, or ethnicity. I judge them by their grammar, spelling, syntax, punctuation, clarity of expression, and logical consistency.

Maybe it's time to rethink broadcasting the qual matches over skype.

Right!! Get rid of that stupid sh1t at the bottom of the screen. It's pretty apparent that nobody likes it. The info is useful, but it can be displayed in a lot less screen eating manner. When I watch a football match , do I see the pundit's face? NO! And I don't want to see it on EVE tournament either - Who would... No need, no point. Honestly, what was wrong with the way it was before - it worked, and was a lot more true to the game.

If it ain't broke, dont' fix it.

The interface sucks. and so does the stream. granted i have another pc using the net for my kids but damn its like watching a still shot movie half the time. Never had this problem before. I also noticed alot less people viewing, wonder if it has anything to do with these issues.

ps: it doesnt matter if i lower the res/quialty/whatever you want to call it

Dissapointed

I really dislike the new view, partly because I can't view it at a normal distance. On a 40" HDTV the text is too small unless I'm right on the screen, or I have to watch on a computer. At least before I could make out the ship icons at a normal distance and have an idea what the fleets are and whats happening.

It's pretty safe to say that this sort of internet stream is designed to be watched on a computer monitor that you are sitting close to. This is how the majority will view it and it makes sense to design an interface that provides additional interface to these viewers.

I think that may have made sense 5-7 years ago, but is a pretty narrow view of how internet content is viewed today.

Speaking as a former editor.. it's probably to keep your attention to the center of the screen. Look at a magazine.. have you ever noticed that pictures of people generally don't show them looking off to the edge of the page? They generally are facing the center of the page.. or facing other photos. The reason for this is that it keeps your focus on the magazine and not off to the edge of the page. Something similar seems to be happening here.. your eyes don't have to travel far.. and your focus is kept centered and not running off screen. I got used to it right away.. and with the layout (ship types and EWAR icons to the center) it makes sense.

new interface really sucks, bring back icons instead of text in the bottom of the screen. Webcam feed is not needed as well.

It occurred to me today during a match where the DPS and Repping were balanced that it would be nice if incoming DPS caused the red part of the bars to pulse just a little, and incoming repping caused the grey parts to pulse.
