This is my first build… decided to spend between $1,000 and $1,400. Tell me what you think or if you might see something that won’t work with everything else. I do know about the BIOS issues with the mobo, but figured that the other reviews I’ve read have said that once flashed, it’s a pretty solid board. Thanks! And don’t be nice… I really need to know what’s going to happen when I plug this in and play EVE on full settings or work on CS5.5 etc… And I only run two accounts at a time.

Case - Corsair Graphite Series 600T CC600TM Mid-Tower Gaming Case @$159.99

Mobo - GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD5H LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard @$179.99

CPU - Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 3000 @$219.99

Graphics Card - EVGA DS SuperClocked 01G-P3-1567-AR GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support @$259.99

RAM - CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory @$54.99

SSD - Crucial M4 CT128M4SSD2 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) @$129.99

HDD - Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive @$119.99

Power - COOLER MASTER Silent Pro Gold Series RS800-80GAD3-US 800W ATX 12V v2.3 / EPS 12V v2.92 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS @$159.99

And some cheap DVD/CD burner cause honestly I’m just not concerned with it. I think it will be like $18…

And if you're wondering, I'm currently (struggling) to play on a MacBook Pro Ugh

What will happen when you plug it in and play EVE on highest settings? You will probably beat yourself for blowing all that dough on a Mac in the first place.

Wrong! Take an MSI 560Ti Twin Frozr II 2Gb <----- hey that's TWO GIGA

The same price and you'll never regret, less noisy, way cooler and just better on all the line. In any case take a 2Gb one. You'll never know if you will need a second-third..... account or monitor and most of all EVE will be supporting dx11 and tassellation soon. 1Gb will be barely enough for 1 client imho

there are better ones. Did I mention g.skill ripjaws? If you want go for the 1866 even if he difference will be not remarkable, but noticable

The rest is ok, even if you'll ever doubt about the mobo, go for an asrock z77 extreme6 or any other z77 one and you could also consider turning your caviar black into a caviar green since it's just a storage device.

no real reason to have a z77 board with a i5-2500k, go with the z68 board and save a few bucks. I suggest the gene-z its a great little micro atx board for about $180 and still overclocks like a champ.

CS6 is teh new sex.

Nearly spilt my venti mocha when I used ray-tracing in AE for the first time.

Go for the biggest, baddest GPU you can find and watch it soar...670GTX is pretty good right now.

yeah...670 is still really new. wait a few more months if you want one. the price will drop and the bugs will be ironed out more. 500 series is fine. i have a 460 and i rarely have issues.

Those gigabyte ultra durable boards are quality. I've owned 2 of them now, they stand the test of time.

IMO the ATI's cards are better in every way to the Nvidia, and I've owned plenty of both. I had a EVGA card blow up
on me. Literally. I could hear the capacitors popping.

Also consider getting a smallish/cheap solid state drive for boot. Makes alot of sense.

I prefer antec power supplies, they really hold up quality company. I can't say anything bad about coolermaster though,
their cpu fans are good.

BTW 800 watt power supply is quite large. overkill probally.

So yeah I would go antec case + antec power supply, do it you won't regret it.

I have that case (in white) pretty damn awesome! I have an i3, 8gb ram, and a 460gtx, and it runs 2 clients pretty damn well

and I might not get the ssd (yet) one of the ccpers said it doesn't really do much for eve recently.

Horseradish.

SSD's remove a huge bottleneck, for every part of your system. If using cs, makes a big difference to running the whole suite, regardless.

Updated build per suggestions on other forums and reading around… what ya think!?

Case - Corsair Graphite Series 600T CC600TM Mid-Tower Gaming Case

Mobo - GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD5H LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

CPU - Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000 BX80637I53570K

Graphics - MSI N570GTX Twin Frozr II GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

RAM - CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CML8GX3M2A1600C9W

HDD - Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

SSD - SAMSUNG 830 Series MZ-7PC128D/AM 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Desktop Upgrade Kit

PSU - CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W ATX12V v2.31/ EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC High Performance Power ...

I can get that PSU for $79.99, so figured why not get a decent 750 now at that price. Overkill, but upgrade capable later right?

PS - anyone recruiting out there?

I love SSD's
I will never build another computer without SSD's
I want to add more SSD's to my RAID array
I recommend SSD's to all my friends and anyone building a modern computer

But SSD's do not help EVE. Just everything else

ah yes everything else!!! I got an ssd a while back and mostly just play eve on my comp. suppose I should try loading up my hdd install sometime. that and if I were to do a new build now everything I get would probably be even faster.

Thoughts on the current version of the build, in no particular order:

160$ for a midtower case is too much IMO. Either pay around that price for a proper fulltower, or go cheaper.

Depending on prices in your area (especially if you have a microcenter) get a 3570k

If you're willing to go up toward the upper end of your price range, shell out for a 670.

Use your HDD from current computer for now +the SSD until HDD prices come down. They're jacked up due to that flood last year and should start coming down soon.

800W PSU is overkill (too much money), even if you want to SLI in the future. Get a 600-650W modular one, 700W if you think you might SLI later.

EDIT: Nevermind, saw you were looking at the TX750. 80$ for a 750W corsair is a steal, even if it's not modular.

Consider moar RAM. 8GB is solid, but 16GB isn't terribly expensive these days (assuming 4x4GB), and you'll almost certainly find a use for it.

My favorite use involves running several virtual machines, a crapload of browser windows, Photoshop, and two EVE clients all at the same time, but your mileage may vary, I suppose. P

Can't argue with that. Running a 650W (Antec EA650) myself in a box loaded with crap, without issue. You're almost certainly not going to have power issues with a 750, and $80 is a lot better than $160. Cool

SSD has serious limitations on how far they can take the tech atm, iirc they've started working on hybrid drives mixing SSD and mag platter

plus personaly i dont like the usage life on them, hence why i'll quite happily stick to my sata mag platter drives instead of SSD, i want something like SSD i'll get a ram disk unit and use ram chips instead.

Your future self is going to pay you a visit and slap you for thinking such closed minded thoughts.

SSD's are exceptional, and right now the prices are sooooo low, if I was on a game show and had to name something I would buy for my 'puter for under $100, an SSD would be the top answer.

All a platter does is give you cheap storage space.

An SSD does all of the below:

1. Improve boot times significantly
2. Improve load times of applications significantly
3. Improves performance of games
4. Improves performance of applications
5. Improves performance of OS
6. Increases your IQ by 40%

As for usage life...well, it ain't last decade anymore, or even 2007 more to the point, and you need to stop talking like it is, because next you'll be telling this forum that Plasma televisions have image retention and cost more than LCD televisions.
