i just don't understand the role of god, especially when every theist has no answer for any question posed towards the subject.

I think that is the point of faith.

Belief on the ideals without the evidence.

faith about what? so are you telling me religion is based on ideas, and people fight over which one is best?

*shocked*

Rarely do people really fight over religion. Look at every religious conflict and you can usually find some other underlying factor responsible.

My view?

Religion is nothing more than spiritual, mental, and psychological poison that is long past due to land in history's dust-bin.

No apologies, I don't care whom that offends.

Embrace your intellect, not someone else's self-serving interpretation of millenia-old propaganda-literature.

Star Wars: the Old Republic may not be EVE. But I'll take the sound of dual blaster-pistols over "NURVV CLAOKING NAOW!!!11oneone!!" any day of the week.

^, Oh you, Now your making fun of my religion. EDIT- was for respnose to alara trolling towards money starting wars.

There is evil cause we suck.
80 is just a nice even number that is why. Also humans still deal with decay/entropy. perhaps we only deal with entropy well enough to live for 80 years.

The New Testament is actually still a break through for modern philosphy and religion, but not well known.

Most religions and philosphy don't think of God as a father or as love. But Jesus postulated that God was a father as well as love. (though, was stated we still had to serve to be child of god, might answer the sin question and us sucking)

So in a sense we have a father, but we still have to serve to be his kid or so. That might explain the human condition, we usually don't serve real well, so it does seem we don't have a father.

i don't know what "god" teaches you that science hasn't yet, science isn't finished evolving either, it's a new study which proves a lot of things, it proves it so much that we are capable of having computers now!~

anyways here's some theories how this universe was formed.

the big bang theory (most popular)
the theory that an advanced civilization created a black hole and sent stuff through it to create this universe (lol its great)
there is nothing outside this universe (stephen hawking)
there is a multiverse / parallel universes (common sense)

try those before pointing the finger to the sky father.

edit: this is for the general public

well you are right. Except you keep to the silly notion science can tell us what is really happening. Please explain how science tells the truth and not man made truth...

Because science is a term for discovery which has been around far before man and science is only another word for the concept, the English word. So no it is not man made, every animal who realized that doing X produces Y results is actively taking part in discovery.

Science as a concept is the search for the truth not the claiming of truth and works off the best hypothesis possible changing as it goes to complete a picture. Until the picture is 100% beyond a doubt complete there will be no absolute truth but that doesn't mean we should ever stop looking.

Figuring out how things work makes us live better, it is why we like to 90 instead of 30. The answers are out there but we are tiny and may never figure them all out but we should never stop trying because it is how we advance.

Anyway. Who cares as i stated from the start: Live happy and die. That's the best you can get out of life. The rest is just fluff that for one reason or another really doesn't matter when you are dead.

we are in an agreement then

Edit: How do you "advance"? By being "more" happy? So in the end all "advancement" should contribute to our happiness

You know I will never understand atheist who say they believe in science while claiming religious people have there fingers in there ears to the truth.

Atheism is the absolute belief that there is no god. They are doing exactly what the religious are doing pretending to know answers they don't then use science which is impartial at its purist to try to put down the other side. Atheists who try to use Science to prove there is no god are as bad as Creationist Scientist.

As a non religious person and as someone who admits they don't know the answer yet I pretty sure I am the only one who can claim science anything.

I'm kind of bored sitting here mining roids, so here's my analogy:

There's a room with a nice painting hanging on the wall and three people walk in.

person one: Nice painting, so what?

person two: That painting gives me a feeling of nostalgia, very nice too look at.

person three: Look at the way the artist used different brushes and paints to get that effect.

So later these people keep their interest in art after looking at this painting.

Person one, becomes a art dealer and just buys and sells art.

Person two, forms the Art appreciation society, for the preservation of fine art.

Person three, starts a school to teach the technical aspects of painting.

Much later all these people run into each other and begin to argue.

Person one, you guys are crazy paintings are just canvas and paint but I can make a pretty penny on them.

Person two, you guys are cavemen and have no appreciation for art and the feelings it invokes.

Person three, you guys don't know the first thing about painting and how technical it is.

This is exactly how all these conversations always go on the subject of religion vs science.

The reality is there is no contradiction or argument.

People take one aspect of reality and claim that is ALL there is to it.

The fact is they are just looking a one side of a many sided thing, and claiming thats the only side.

I am big into seeing things to believe them. Unlike some deities, I can actually observe the world and if I can see something, I don't know, kinda helps its credibility along.

First off I'm glad CCP has not closed this thread and guys please remember try not to be directly offensive towards other posters, share your views by all means but remain respectful thank you.

Secondlly I'd just like to say that everyone here has some interesting views, here is another of mine that explains why religion and science was created.

If you had a child who was sick, you wouldn't tell them their going to die and never be seen again, you'd tell them that they are going to heaven and will live forever. It's about reasuring that person to make the thought of dying as easy to accept as possible.

Rewind that thousands of years, an uneducated warrior, ruled by an emperior is about to enter combat for the very first time in history, he is scared, lots of soldiers are scared of the thought of dying, they start to refuse to enter combat and fight one another. Then the emperior one day decides I need to convince these warriors to not be scared of dying, and he created god, heaven and hell.

"If you do not fight you shall be sentenced to hell, but if you fight for your emprior, you will be sentenced to heaven, make you're choice."

and as time goes by, a book is written, then rewritten, then updated, changed and edited as the warriors start to ask more questions and grow smarter. This is how I truely believe religion was created which explains perfectly why we have so many of them, one for jews, one for christians, one for mulims etc etc.

Then there's science, the human desire to understand how and why something is the way it is, humans crave evidence before they believe something, if I told you I saw a ufo you'd ask me for proof, if I said, look up and you saw a 500ft UFO floating over the top of London you'd probably say, you know what... I believe you now.

For over 2000 years god has provided us with no one shred of evidence of his existence, maybe one day he will make the sun dissapear or take away the water from the oceans but until that day, religion dies more and more every year.

and in a few thousand years time if earth is still here, religion will not exist, god will just be dog spelt backwards and the so the story goes.....

Fyi im somewhere between a naturalist and a deist (what can I say, Washington and Jefferson make good points).

I could be convinced of a creator/s but organized religion, faith, and most of the iniformation in the various bibles/other religious books are entirely different things, often in contradiction to one enother.

That's just it, the main downfall with religion is there are several forms of it, all of which contradict each other in some way or another. If there was just 1 book, translated into each language and only ever 1 book then religion would be so much stronger, and each religion says they are the correct one and all others are wrong, so somewhere down the line these books were faked and written by man.

Because otherwise, there would only be one book period.

You buy a TV and it comes with a manual in varies languages, not 5 different manuals telling you it works in 5 different ways lol.
