2003 Vet. All I have to say is this, consider all of the perks you get for playing this game, fantastic GM assistance, free expansions, minimal downtime for such a colossal unsharded server. Look, EvE means so much to us, we want it to run at its best no matter what. I put my trust in CCP to do what is necessary to provide me with the opportunity to play the game with as much stability as possible. With that comes maintenance, and sometimes its not scheduled, as you are currently experiencing. Long story short, you are getting way more than you are paying for I promise, be patient and all will be as it should be soon™

If you folks think this unscheduled downtime is bad, obviously you've never played WoW...

On another note, since the hamsters are clearly on their last legs and need replacing, perhaps we should catch a few forum trolls and send them along to CCP to help upgrade the servers? I know all you Amarr out there at least gotta be on board with that idea.

Dear CCP,
I want to applaude you for being able to notice server problems, and restart said server within 30 minutes. Really impressive !

Great 2 times in 12 hrs I can play the servers decide otherwise !

CCP definitely forging ahead in t he spirit of Hilmar's blog huh ?! Roll

It would also help if they had a server status monitor separate from Eve forums or web page that also seem to crash and burn when the server hiccups !
I imagine they don't employ ppl to sit and babysit all the time to then update some page but there are apps that can at least report the server health/status automatically ... it's called utilizing modern IT tools and doing such would def be part of becoming an industry leader.

It's my fault I suppose, but for some reason I had trouble finding a thread about the trouble (i was just curious about what the trouble actually was this time).
....and why didn't they port the old forum over to the new one? There's a lot of helpful/valuable information there, and no matter what the reasoning behind not doing it, I'm sure I would have made it a priority, no matter how tempted I might have been to skip it. (sorry for the armchair quarterbacking and post-game analysis, but it struck a nerve when I realized what they'd done)

You've clearly never heard of the EVE-Online Status Monitor.

Please don't attempt to speak authoritatively of things with which you clearly have no experience. It just makes you look bad.

Actually I have - that is a 3rd party monitor set up (by Chribba) as CCP do not provide such a thing themselves and at those times it was still reporting Ok with over 20K ppl online just as the client log in was ... which isn't much help when some other part of the server infrastructure is not allowing completion of log in attempts.

After 14 years+ experience designing, implementing & managing server environments and setting up such monitoring systems I think it is you talking with ya head in the sand and Please refrain from personal attacks. Spitfire.

There are ways/tools you can use to implement monitoring and reporting on potential outage situations and if you know your systems well then there should be backups and fail-safes.

I was more pointing out that after a blog from the CEO himself on "A Humbler, Stronger CCP" specifically stating :
Quote:
"What I can say for now is that we’ve taken action to ensure these mistakes are never repeated. We have reexamined our processes, hired experienced industry professionals for key leadership positions, reassessed our priorities, moved personnel around and, above all else, recognized our limitations."

Then these unscheduled server outages just show that there are some areas that urgently need addressing to ensure they can keep servers up to keep players.
If it was left up to all the juvenile slackers with their attitudes of "oh servers go down get over it" then no progress and technological developments would come about. And was it not CCP themselves who stated that their aim was to eventually eliminate downtimes except for patches and upgrade ?!
