AMD HD 7970 Freeze during combat... Only one client. *Solved, Nvidia FTW*

Hello ppl.


My system completely freezes during combat, intermittently but often enough to annoy me.

I dont even get a BSOD.

No other time does my comp freeze lite this!

Specs: ATI HD 7970(no oc), I7 930 (no oc), 12 GB 1600 @ 1033.. Win 7 - 64 bit, Intel SSD
(But no prob. what so ever during OC/1600 CL8 without EVE but during combat *POW*)

The last 5 years i´ve been using AMD/ATI for gpu. But now actually i´m gettig tired of this.


As you se above everything is at default, no OC, tried diff. catalyst drivers 12.3 - 12.7 beta

Tried clean install of windows, same prob.

Having played the game alot, long time ago but still, but never with these crashes, and trust me when i say that no other crashes occur exept with eve.

Playig alot online, TF2, BF3 and never these problems.. of course "offline" graphic intese games like Skyrim, X3, cysis 2 also without any complete freezes. Unless some of my many mods makes skyrim do a CTD but thas different.

And pls dont Memtest me or prime, been there done that..

I just think that AMD cheaper prices affets their drivers, customer realtions and support... Becuase im not alone with this prob.. =/

Eversince their so called Eyefinity, which i also have tried and never worked well (atleast not then), there has been strange issues with new tech from AMD..

I wouldnt say this just becuse i have a single, small prob and think that the world will fall into oblivion. It´s just that i´ve noticed a change during these years on different forums in attitude and ppl not being content..

Im trying not to complain but has anyone a workaround or do i need to swtich to a nvidia card?


Pls be constructive in your answer, theres already enough fanboys wanting to protect their "investment"..

Update:

Running the log server seems to be useless as you need to save the log.. Is this actually true? doesn't it log in real time and save the info?

Go to the map, Mouse around on for about... 5 mins

Let me know if you crash,

My system crashs when:

Opening the map
Mousing around the map
Warping
Undocking
Combat

Only and only during combat. Strange perhaps but seem something triggers a freeze when i am in combat, and its not performance related and if someone has the need and urge to reply, that they NEVER had ANY problems what so EVER with anything from a pc.. Blink pls dont.. Straight

But actually, while in combat i am using the tactical interface if that helps..

Going to try with "run as admin" with the shortcut to se if that changes anything.. Last resort will be minimum graph. settings.

Tried to clean cache aswell..

Minimum graph wont help, Also i dont use tactical overview, so thats not the issue.

Actually, now when you mentioned it want to add that my autopilot "lines" dissapear from the starmap.. perhaps thats where the first error reveals itself..?

But again EVE only crashes during combat but i might jump into the starmap once in a while during combat aswell..

I just dont know what renders this freeze?

had the same issues with the 7970 (tripple head configuration).
After several tests and checks at retailer and manufactorer who could not identify and issue with the card,
Finally, I got rid of it and got a nVidia card, which is working fine (like all my old nVidias before).

Once or twice my PC even freezed in a different game (Tribes: Ascend), eve only after heavy load by 3 clients and tripple head over hours. Yeah I remember a quick freeze after opening star map too.

Got me a lot of trouble, took a lot of time and money in the end prior "fixing" the problem by purchasing better hardware.

F*ck AMD.

I've read som posts that nvidia users have written and they have similar probs but the differnce is (it seems) that the majority are AMD..

The though have crossed my mind about switching to nvidia, most of my friends use nvidia but i dont hear them complain, but it feels like giving up.. Sad

Just wait it out, At most wait 2 weeks.

You can still log on and set your skills, Just remember though, CCP more than likely WILL fix this, so don't spend money on a new card til' its fixed.

Well, I did it..

I ran as a coward to the nearest comp. store and bought myself a Nvidia 680.. Roll

I just hade enough of trouble..


And after two days of testing, no freezes, no hangs and no overscan problems!




How can I not be a bad ambassadeur for AMD from now on?

Have exactly the same problem with a ATI HD 7970, in combat crashed after just a few minutes. I disabled some graphical stuff, including engine and missile trails, and that seemed to help.

not so fast dude. Mine freezed comp mostly after hours running, even without combat. Freezed just randomly, but for some reason I had it only when running 3 clients on 3 displays.

Never said it solved the problem, just seemed to help, at least for me. This combat freezing is kinda new and seems to fit with the missile trails. I've had the exact same freeze happen when I go into the star map, and that has been going on for months. I pretty much have stopped using the star map.

Iv'e got the same issue, random freezing, especially when i open the map etc. Asus 7970 DCII. Iv'e filed a petition and bug report, everybody who encounters the freezing should do the same, AMD and CCP needs to do something about this, and fast.
As it is now it's unplayable, which isn't much fun considering i'm paying a monthly sub. PLEASE do something.

unfortunately you may still have problems even with an nvidia card and up to date or beta driver.

I won't buy a new graphic card because of bad support from ccp !

i would rather quit my accounts before i'll invest more money in my hardware.
my Mac is having only problems with EVE and only with a high a AMD GK.

So whats the case here ?

1. bought broken hardware
2. yells at CCP for fixing it

very intelligent person

Why dont you call General Motors or Boeing and threat them with boycotting their products as long as your crashes arent fixed?
