Sobaseki X - Moon 1 - Caldari Navy Assembly Plant, on the market there was a buy order for 9000 Freed Slaves @ 249,999.99 per item.

I tried to sell the 60 Freed Slaves I had but it was a bulk buy order for all 9000 or nothing. So on the same station there were selling the following Items (which I purchased in order to have the 9000 needed for to fullfill the buy order):

Once I had all 9000 Freed Slaves I right clicked selected SELL THIS ITEM and I got the sell window stating automatically that I was selling 9000 Freed Slaves @ 249,999.99. Note that the buy order was still there on the MARKET window. The moment I pressed the sell button the buy order that was under the buyers portion of the market window disappeared, the sell didn't go through and the 9000 Freed Slaves appeared under MY ORDERS tab.

The outcome is that I lost 1,523,176,368.00 (all my ISK minus 30,000,000.00) and while the buy order was clearly there and the system recognized it, since I had the sell window infornt of me for 9000 Freed Slaves @ 249,999.99 (autofilled) per piece, as I said above the second that I pressed teh SELL button the buy order dissapeared and the transaction didn't go through!!!

Note that there was a similar scheme but with Janitors on the same station, which also dissapeared the moment the Freed Slaves buy order dissapeared.

Has anyone came across anything like that before? Is it a scam, a scam bot (if there is such a thing) or a bug?!?!?!

Even though I also made a post like this at one time, there really should be a sticky for it :S

I feel sorry for you, but there will always be a first time for this error, unless you have someone whom introduced you to EVE and warned you.

In the real world, everything that looks too good to be true probably is. In EVE, you can simply be certain.

I think this is a seriously broken aspect of the market. A basic principle should be, if the book order exists, then there should be no question that the trader backing it has the isk to carry through with the trade.

Your mistake was not following the common sense rule. If it seems too good to be true, it usually is.

I have come across some very nice looking contracts etc and have had to resist the temptation to instantly accept and re-read. All of the amazing looking deals are scams. In eve nothing is free.

It's one of the sillier gamisms in Eve. Makes no sense whatsoever but does provide another sound tactic for players who enjoy professional scamming. Another thing that couldn't exist in a real world, but a game doesn't need to make sense, it just needs to provide fairly balanced play. CCP's remedy to potential targets is simply that the scam can be avoided.

But yes, it's a dumb loophole in the trading system.

They need to color-code and/or flag orders where the min volume of the buy order is greater than that person's ability to cover.

A person who has a buy order for 2000 items at 1mil/unit isn't a problem if they only have 500mil. Maybe the order sells slowly.

A person who has a buy order for 2000 items at 1mil/unit with a min volume of 1000 units with only 500mil isk, would NEVER be able to cover.

We need a sytem that would flag these "never" scenerios.

I think your historical knowledge and a nod to the role Wilberforce played in removing in this disgusting trade will be sadly lost on the majority of EvE players.

Plus sadly the 9000 have simply changed master and are still under the yoke!

Come the revolution!!
