Hi Everyone,

First off I would like to apologize for yet another one of these threads (I'm sure there are a lot of them on the forums Lol)

I have been the typical hi-sec mission runner for a while now and looking to get into PvP. I have most of my SP focused into Missile skills and have mediocre gunnery skills. I would like to train Amarr or Gallente (I have both BS skills at 4 along with their gun skills), so my first question is- which should I train? I will only be doing solo/duo PvP with a friend who flies Minmatar -Vagabond usually, but can fly any Minmatar ships.

Secondly, after doing some research myself on the topic I have gotten a general idea on the commonly flown ships from both races but would appreciate it if anyone could give me advice on ship progression (Like Frigate>Cruiser>T2 Cruiser, etc)

Again, sorry for another one of these threads but I wasn't able to get enough information after reading similar posts and I understand it's quite a few questions but I would greatly appreciate it if someone could give a PvP newbie some advice.

Regards,
Burz

Buy a hundred rifters, fit some tackle and guns on it, go see what you can catch. Come back after they are all exploded. You'll have much more experience and much more specific questions to ask that we, the humble shiptoasters of the forums, can help you with.... if we feel like it.

I wouldn't go beyond T1 frigates and focus on flying them properly atm, like getting their support skills up etc...

They recently received a boost and are the best value for the money.

I'd stay away from cruisers atm, as they're not rebelanced yet (except minmatar, who excel at anything except caps atm) and especially T2 cruisers as they've been CCPs red-haired step-child for ages.

Destroyers and Assault ships may be a viable option atm too..

Don't bother with BS atm - imho, they're the weakest class outside blobs in current eve and there are not even plans to boost them yet...

You may want to join the huge battlecruiser monoculture eve is atm, just as everyone else does. Race-wise, I'd stick with Minmatar - they're ridiculously overpowered atm and CCP wont acknowledge that for at least 5 years to come.

Well I'm already in the process of buying destroyers and whatnot, just to lose them and try to get some experience. I suppose I can make my questions more specific, If I am going to be flying with a Vagabond (Hurricane maybe) should I train up T2 fit Harby real quick or go for a Curse?

Give it a read. Well worth it

As for types (after you gain experience and confidence enough to not lose every time you go out), I would tool around in a few types to get a feel for them. Most pple (granted, some are just good in every damned thing they pilot) tend to be better in one type of ship over another. I'm learning quickly that I do better in Drone boats, and brawlers than I do in kiters / snipers for example.

Practice some pvp with friends, so you save your ships, or hop on the test server and try out some fittings. ;)

Thank you everyone for the replies, I will take a look at that and continue messing around with frigates Smile

join the in-game channel R-V-B. Then apply to join Red Federation (best federation). Then you can shoot those dastardly blues all day long. Come and go (mostly) as you please.

Plenty of action for the whole family, mostly cheap and you'll leave (hopefully) knowing a fair bit about frigate/dessy/cruiser PvP, as well as how to be a good little boy and shoot at whatever the FC calls out!

Don't fly alone it is ******* frustrating, they always bring something to counter you, so you might aswell up the odds and bring more yourself. the 100 rifters might work, if you haven't quit before using them. Sure pick targets wisely but how do you do that when you learn. your learning experience will be tested since, (almost everyone) else will bring friends, but hey. They need those juicy rifter km's. Anyway stay in small gangs from start and get kills and losses. you might learn more the other way(depending on what you meet) but is a lot more depressing experience

^that.

FW will give you the opportunity to join fleets and PvP. You'll learn from other players, your fleet commanders, and, of course, all the mistakes you'll make.

It does not take 100 Rifters to learn to PvP. It takes watching others and learning what works (and what doesn't).

As for solo PvP, it's basically dead in EvE. You go into low or null solo and you'll just get roflpopped by a gang of 8-10, or some corp on a blob roam. There's nothing to learn from getting annihilated in a 10 to 1 fight other than "it sucks". Unfortunately, PvP in EvE is at a low point. Other than null corp v. corp or alliance v. alliance wars, all you have is FW. Just do that.
