Was expecting a sarcastic post about how CCP Devs are the worst people ever. Instead found actual reasonable advice that people should really take to heart (if it's not already obvious via common sense).

Good job, OP.

Yeah... don't even mention the dev blog.... Not like they ever respond to comments on their blogs or anything.

Not a forum alt.

we do too!Smile

That's a good guideSmile... I have one pro tip from a real person dev: positive and constructive posts are much more effective than crazy aggressive posts, at least for me. If people are respectful, it's more likely that I will want to help them out with stuff. Smile

Although, I'm not sure about cc-ing Seleene in all mails... we do not have to answer evemails, and if someone would cc Seleene in a evemail to me to force me to answer it, I think it would rub me the wrong way. (not that I have anything against Seleene, she's a very cool lady Lol)

CCP Karkur, Reddawn, Bayesean and the rest of team avatar are great at keeping us all informed! Some of you give us info and feedback so often that we even miss you when you are are on vacation Blink

I enjoyed Seleene's article in Eon last issue and fun blog (with pictures) on the last CSM meeting. I can't think of any other game where the developers are so real and involved in the game. In my experiences most companies have one or two public relations correspondents who really have little in term of actually working on the game.

Nice guide.
I have one issue though.

The underscore is only part of the dev names when it comes to Twitter. :)

Great guide, and completely agree with earlier commenter about your ability to keep the edge on the humor while imparting good info.

One thing people might also consider is when it's appropriate to jump into a conversation (most relevant on Twitter), and when to take a sideline. As public as Twitter is, sometimes it can feel like you're walking in half way through a conversation. (Voice of experience...)

Oddly enough, these points are often not known by many people that take developer access for granted.

For the same purpose, I've created a similar guide on our internal staff forum :)

Well done :)

I was going to come in and make some snarky comment about "Don't you have a war to lose" or "I guess you have plenty of time to write faqs while never undocking" but this is actually well written and a very useful guide. Bravo!

It's ok because my comment back would have been "I wrote this while on planes and at airports during a trip. My lack of undocking has been completely voluntary and not hindered by any sort of writing what so ever. (Truth be told every time I'm online I've been able to undock.)" But since I put it in italics it's not really a response and I'll just say thanks for the kind words and what I can tell is as much restrain as is possible from a goon! Big smile

As for the rest of the comments, I will be incorporating them into the next version shortly.

Darn that means my crazy mini-profession made full blown idea will never get read. Then again Im falling behind on updates and need to commit tiericide on my ships as well.

I think that the idea is to ensure that the Dev had a chance to get the information/hear the issue contained in the EvE-Mail, in case that Dev doesn't habitually read their EvE-Mail.

At least that's how I read it. I can certainly see how it could easily be seen as an attempt to force an answer though.

hey that's really good! I really really liked this part

You can avoid becoming an ******* by remembering that developers are real people with a job to do. Most of them love their job so much that they are willing to spend personal time to interact with the players or to simply do more than their job requires. As most people who have a job will tell you, when you have to deal with assholes every moment of your work day you immediately lose interest in doing anything extra and eventually you don’t want to even continue getting paid to do the job.

I loooove interacting with the players because I think it's super fun to have a bunch of space friends, but when people are mean to me (sometimes for no obvious reason) it makes me really really sad. Just imagine saying those mean things to the dev's face and imagine how much it would hurt! Well to me the forum posts are sometimes the same.

But 99,99999% of all the interaction I have with players are really pleasant and I try to take all positive feedback and do what I can do with it (as can be seen by some of my dev blogs and some of my posts in the test server feedback forums)
