If I research Production Efficiency to L5, will that remove waste?

Long story short, I bought the amount of minerals for a run that it says on the Blueprint, and now I'm missing minerals because of waste. Will training PE to 5 remove that, so that I only need what is on the Blueprint?

Good day!

Have not dabbled in Manufacturing myself, but am interested and have done some reading on it. So what I say here is not from my own experience and may be flawed.

Training Production Efficiency to V is only one factor in minimizing waste in manufacturing. You will also need a perfect ME BPO/BPC (level of perfect ME varies according to each blueprint IIRC). Also, you may want to look into your standings with the station owner where you're manufacturing, in order to reduce taxes etc.

Simple answer, yes.

The BP should say what the material requirements are for a maxed character and what they are for you, i.e.:

e.g.:

Nocxium - [You : 264 - Perfect: 212]

With PE at V, this disappears and you only see the 212.

To answer the OP's question, this.

You get waste from skills (PE) and materials for the blueprint (ME level) but the ME mat waste will be reflected in the numbers you see.

YES,
Having PE skill to 5 will will eliminate the skill based waste. This will give you the mineral consumption listed on the blueprint. You can reduce this waste further by researching the Blueprint if it is a BPO. a base blueprint still has 10% waste although this is reflected in the listed material requirements. By performing Material Efficiency (ME) research you can further reduce the material costs as listed on the blueprint. ME research is less effective the more of it you do. getting the blueprint to ME 5-10 is almost always worth while, but once you get down to 0.5-0.3% waste it is only worth more research if the material requirements are really high. For example a blueprint requiring 10,000,000 trit a further 0.1% saves you 10,000 units of trit. However that is only 60,000isk so not a big savings on 60 mil worth of trit. but on some BPO's that extra 0.1% can save you many millions like jump freighter components for example requiring massive amounts of PT Tech in a component you need over 800 of.
