I was able to finish AE using a t1 drone and rail domi, now I know I need a few more skills however...

Boy was it slow and boring! I really hope is isn't that way for everyone because if these things don't get a lot quicker with practice (and maybe some T2 equipment) I don't understand how people can keep running them. Part of me is ready to go exploration full time. At least you are constantly interacting instead of deploying sents, orbiting them, and waiting for the target BS to pop.

I remember my attempt at AE, it was so slow.. Warping out all the time etc. To be honest, missions don't get much more fun but they do get quicker and more bearable.

The better your skills get the quicker it will go. also the domi is not known for its speed in missions, not sure if that has changed since the new drone damage mods. Not sure of your fit either, but you should have 1 sentry damage rig and 2 omin's and 1-2 drone damage mods at least, and that with T2 sentries will work quite well. garde's will hit out at a long way and still track OK close by.

I think it takes me in a kronos about an hour to do the full kill+ salvage of that mission. solo. Im not sure i havent run it timed in a while, but if i didnt do the full salvage in the kronos (two tractors and one salvager) it would take me half the time.

In a rail domi, its still manageable in terms of time, as the Angels have a very nice (in terms of drones) habit of close orbits. so drone travel time is fairly low, though they start far away.

get your drone skills up before anything else if you are going to continue with the domi. the rails are secondary damage and the tank should be enough no matter what happens in a AE room (sans the bonus room which can stil kill a 800 dps tank vs angels as the damage changes resistances in the bonus room)

Its not possible to please all the people all the time, but it sure as hell is possible to Displease all the people, most of the time.

Doing missions is not what makes EvE fun.

I've never flown Gallente, but from what I've heard, Domi isn't the way to do missions fast, it's the way to do missions with a minimal amount of effort. If you're looking to be more engaged, you might want to switch to a more turret-based ship. That said, improved skills will definitely speed things along, and as you learn just how much tank you really need for a particular mission, you'll be able to start selectively trading excess tank modules for more DPS to finish things quicker.

there is A LOT to optimize when running lvl4 missions. not only your skills, but also your ship/modules, as well as the way you choose and fly missions has severe impact on your speed and your income.

I should buy an Ishtar.

An hour in a Kronos? Heck, I full clear AE (minus the bonus room) + salvage in around 40 mins in my CNR. And that includes going back to station to switch into my Noctopus.

I don't think your 1 hour estimate is accurate.

@OP: If you don't like missioning, don't mission. P
Gets significantly more fun when you have some skills for it, but YMMV.

Regarding Domis and them being slow in general...
Domis can do missions plenty fast. They could do it before Inferno (and drone damage mods), too. Their reputation as mission slowboats comes from people using them AFK, or nearly so (overtanking at the expense of a full gun rack, releasing drones, and making a sandwich).

They have problems that prevent them from really being among the *top* mission boats, though. Most of all, it's that sentries require you to stay in place, which both kills your efficiency on missions requiring travel, and prevents a lot of fancy flight tricks that make ships like the Machariel great. Also, it's skill intensive compared to many other options of similar potential.

But I have yet to find a ship that can match it for certain missions, like Recon 1 and Gone Berserk.

You picked a long one to start on. With the fit I settled on for a mission Mach I could clear all but the bonus room in a single tick but it was still one of the longer missions out there.

But it does get faster with skills and experience. If you need a steady, predictable income stream you can't really beat L4s.

I think I died embarassingly fast on my first attempt at AE4... :) Got awesome advice to try killing frigates with cruise missiles and no drones. Oops

It's all in the skills. Every race has a decent mission/pve ship, but they all take a bunch of skills at very high levels to run Level 4's quickly and efficiently.

Since you have Gallente Battleships trained, try looking into a Machariel. You'll need Large Projectile Turrets/Large Autocannon Specialization + Gunnery Support skills, and a decent set of tanking skills.

If you really want to keep using Drones, look at the Rattlesnake. It's ridiculously tanky for a mission boat, and has the same speed issue as the Domi, but it makes the Domi's "easy-mode missioning" look like finals week at MIT.

My personal favorite for making missioning more fun is trying out new fits, and just basically seeing how many "fail fits" I can get to work. Favorite so far: 1400mm Howitzer Maelstrom. It breaks angel Battleships like they're made of some kind of fragile substance that breaks easily when hit by really heavy objects...

The dominix gets a lot faster at missions once you move into sentries, and learn to gank-tank everything. (that is, kill everything before it has a chance to apply much damage to you)

Missions do indeed get much faster, especially if you have the right ship for the job. A lot of people will eventually get several different ships for different missions.

For example, a blaster vindicator is win for close range missions like Damsel in Distress (linky), but mostly fail at missions where everything spawns 80km away.

Conversely, the sentry domi has ridiculously good damage projection, so even at 80km away it just murders everything, but it can be overwhelmed a bit if everything has time to close in on it.
