It's great to see everyone debating how these sites would fit into EVE. I'd like to take a moment to reiterate that our focus was on the minute-by-minute gameplay rather than looking at the idea holistically. We wanted to make sure there was some fun gameplay to come out of the concept before we started deep diving in how it might be integrated into EVE proper, which is a question worthy of serious consideration.

There's a lot of discussion about New WiS and its overall concept. This thread is about the "minute-by-minute."

You're already at the exploration site / ruins / whatever. How you got there and what sec area you're in is irrelevant. What do you find inside, and what do you do about it?

Rogue Drones crawling from a vent? Secretly malicious AI (SHODAN)? Storyline / lore / clues to Jove?
Do you shoot first? Hack subsystems? Weld the door shut? "Helper" drones?

More topics:
What does the interface look like? What are the controls?
What kinds of personal modules do you have equipped?

No one...? Guess I'll start.

I was trying to come up with a combat/module system that would be unique from FiS or Dust, with low server/bandwidth load, but still engaging. If Dust is tactical and FiS is strategic, this is something in-between. Think "space speed-chess." Here's just a few ideas:

* You don't "target" things like FiS, but there's no free-aim. Every nearby object you would interact with is already on your overview. You just have to click it to select. There are modules to extend your overview "sight," even if you're not in range to select them.

* Weapons don't autorepeat, but they do have a cooldown. They are generally powerful enough to one-shot anything without protection (which you won't find often). Emphasis on pistols and rifles. No machineguns; clicking a button once and having multiple rounds fire is immersion-breaking.

* Going along with above, a basic cheap personal shield can generally withstand a single hit. Radiation, etc might slowly drain it. Different shields have different resists.

* Don't forget your personal shield recharger. Activate to instantly recharge a set amount, but as with everything watch the cooldown timing.

* Turns out for this site you want to bring a codebreaker too, but you're out of slots in that row. Trade your shield and charger for a combined module that's less effective but saves you a slot.

* Also, turrets annoy you. Good thing you brought your ECM. Or maybe that's too flashy and you're trying stay hidden, so you bring your electronic cloak to keep you off their sensors entirely. Harder to fit, but far more elegant.

The lore for this type of thing is limitless but i would think the interior content should begin with a focus on the jove and maybe finding evidence about creators but not exposing them, just clues anout them and technology we can get from them. Finding evidence about Eve gate and how to get back to earth would also be interesting.

I imagine gameplay having fps elements, but much slower and with much more environment interaction. Alan wake might be a good refference point.

UI needs to be as cleanas it can. We want the feelingto be dark, cold, scary. A screen filling ui would take away from that feel.
