If they want to bid anonymously then I don't see a problem with that. If the winning bidder wants proof I haven't been padding the auction then I'm happy to provide access to my mail to that one person via custom API key but frankly if I was going to do that wouldn't I just post here on a disposable alt?

I'm at the airport now, will check this thread again when I land in about 6 or 7 hours time, whoever has highest bid then wins.

A forum auction is rather pointless if the bidders don't even post in the forum. Besides the question of the trustworthyness of the seller, who after all can just invent bidders that - at the end of the auction - mysteriously vanish and don't answer mails any longer theres still the problem with how to bid against someone who you don't know has even bid on the auction until the seller finally posts it in here.

Say, the auction goes until thisorthat day, 20 o'clock evetime and the seller is not online until after 21 o'clock. How can one bid against the anonymous bidder that send his mail at 19:59? He did after all send his mails before the end of the auction and thus won the auction. On the other hand, the seller could be entirely without honor and - if he gets a better offer before creating the contract, ignore the auction end time he himself set up.

There were all kinds of auction sellers to see on forums over the years. It does not mean that you are one of those bad apples, but since a bidder usually doesn't know a lot about the seller he cannot trust simply in your good heart. ;)

It's me who offered 975 via evemail. Makhar has nothing to hide. I have nothing against the fact if Makhar wants to prove this if Capt. James TKirk insists on such a proof.

Hi Makhar,


The point about bids from outside of this forum, without even suggesting any dodgy dealings, is that it is frustrating when you put a bid on something, but you have no idea WHETHER or WHAT another person is bidding.

I guess a response to that might be 'bid higher' ... but that negates the main logic of the bidding process, ie., controlling how much you are willing to offer, and playing your cards close to your chest.

Either the Auction (listed as a WTS btw) is a 'blind' auction where nobody sees another persons bid, or it is not.


... the other point in this instance is that at the very top of the thread, you stated "Offers posted here please".




Apart from all that, I offer 990mill. Now with that, I should stfu :)

Clearly hit a nerve here :) as you say wasn't even originally an auction but as with any WTS where there's a lot of interest it's inevitably become one. The bid by mail wasn't exactly 'blind' as I posted how much it was for and offered api details to the winning bidder as proof. Hardly see it's any different to telephone bidders at a real auction.

Any way point is mute now as the postal bidder has now posted here and as I'm back the 'auction' is over now anyway. The contract is going up as soon as client finishes patching to highest offer of 990mil from MH
