I'm about to pilot a maelstom in 10hours, can't wait! I plan to use it on Gallente Fed lvl4 missions. I had a hard timing finding a proper fit, I'd like to use autocannons. Could anyone give me a fit setup please? Thanks in advance.

I prefer 2 TE's. You'll need a faction Shield Boost for T2 Guns thanks to CPU cost.

In case AC's don't work for you in missions. I have a lot of success with this fit.

confirming both fits viable. arty vs. AC depends on play style and specific mission.

I should buy an Ishtar.

CCC Rigs work with this fit as well. The AC and Atry Fits are interchangable dending on the enemies ranges and positions.

EVE Survival gives out a pretty accurate description of Missions so you can switch between weapons as you need too.

I decided against CCC because I've gotten comfortable and better at pulsing the booster and managing cap.

However they are a nice cushion and I recommend them for your first Mael for sure.

I hope you mean Minmatar BS 4 and large projectiles 4/5 finishes in 10 hours. Otherwise i'd say RUN FOREST, RUN.

^^ Yeah, those are the bare minimum required. Having BS 5 and Large Art Spec 4 makes it a breeze.

I also meant to add to my post that when you are doing some misisons in your mael for the first time, have a corpie in a smaller ship come along to kill any and all frigates and small rats. You don't wanna lose your brand new shiny cause of one scramming frig!

Thanks for all your posts and yah, I do have to run like Forrest Gump sometimes, I swapped the tracking enhancer for a afterburner.

Yah, unfortunately I'm not in a corp yet. I've been experiencing those frigs are hard to kill once they are close. Should I be insta popping them first, then move to bigger ships? The t2 scout drones are working decent enough, but they kill them kinda slow.

Do you pilots use Cap Booster 400s?

with my skills last nearly 17 minutes tanking 414DPS omni, you can get a lot more with rat specific hardeners, it also does a little under 700dps at 35km(optimal) with EMP L, or nearly 800DPS with RF EMP L.
use the war's for frigs and the valks for anything larger. It's not the best mission ship my with good skills there is little you need to worry about.

Generally I fit my Mael with a Heavy Cap Booster II, loaded with 800's, if I'm expecting really heavy incoming sustained DPS. In a lot of other missions, the XL booster, hardeners and one boost amplifier cover me fine.

As for frigates, insta-popping them at range can be kind of dicey, because in a lot of missions, the frigates will trigger the next incoming wave, and if you get too many waves coming in all at once, they'll break your tank and send you home in a pod. One key skill to train in that case would be Drone Interfacing; every level gives you a 20% buff to your drones' DPS, you can be at IV in a few days, and I've found that T2 Hobgoblins combined with Drone Interfacing IV will shred rat frigates fairly quickly. (Hobs are slower than Warriors, and rats are more likely to have some resists against thermal, but the Hobs have a better damage multiplier, so for close-in work they're a good general-purpose choice for light drones.)

This bit about drone interfacing is the truth. Every pilot in EvE should have drone interfacing at a minimum of 4.

As for weapons, I always preferred arty on my Mael. In my experience, an AC Maelstrom just doesn't project damage that well unless you can use Barrage. Unless I was doing a mission where I knew that rats would get into close orbit before I could kill them, I always ran arty.

Even with CCCx3 you will only have a couple minutes (and I mean like two) of cap endurance.

I usually run x2 invulns, and a thermal hardener (all active) which also frees enough CPU for the T2 Guns (either 1200 arties or 800 ac) and an AB.

.....and the frigging thing is SLOW even with an AB you get the urge to get out and push.

If I were you and having some difficulty with the smaller ships I try to shoot them on approach. If there are too many of them to pop before they get to you, turn your ship in the opposite direction and fly to put some range between you and them so they end up following you. This should by you a lot of time, with an AB you should be faster than any mission rat (unless their MWD frigs, but those should die quick ), without AB you should be just buying yourself a good amount more time.

And remember Scram/Web Frigs = PRIORITY under all circumstances. Use eve survival website, infact bookmark it on ingame browser for simplicity. Just know it looks like it's not perfect, in fact I somehow got webed by a cruiser a couple weeks ago. My guess is it's a new thing after Inferno or a bug, I had to double check 20x times to make sure it was a cruiser and it was, even the wreck verified.

Welcome to Eve. Everyone here is an Evil Sick Sadistic Bastard who is out to get you. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either trying to scam you or use you.
