Checked my facebook page to find a Eve online update:

"Involved in the massive player war going on right now? Make a video, write a blog post, record some audio or make some propaganda?"

This is basicaly begging the community to advertise even make advertisements for the game. Has it really deteriorated so much since I last logged on?

It is obviously because of all the accounts unsubbed over hulkageddon and the like...don't know how CCP is going to survive.

OT I like the player created videos and the like. Some of them display real talent, which is nice to see from the community. It just so happens to advertise as well, so why wouldnt it be encouraged?

I just found it not only supprising, but a little tasteless to see that posted from a game used to love

I don't blame CCP for not wanting to sit on the 319 undock for a few hours to maybe catch some footage of Nagas or something undocking and being blown up...

EVE is about the players. CCP has always advertised it as such. Players have always done far more to advertise and sell the game than anyone else, even CCP. I see absolutely no issue with encouraging contributions to the game from the community. And really, I think far more EVE players are going to see the Delve propaganda than potential recruits, don't you?

Besides, what gave you the impression that CCP is making cuts? I don't think encouraging players to advertise is indicative of a fall in advertising from CCP.

As the saying goes "Any advertisement is good advertisement, even if it is bad advertisement"

Or its something along those lines anyways lol.

Id call it innovative thinking by their marketing department rather than it being a sign of budget cuts.

I could see how the overt nature of the request could make you feel that way. I'm sure CCP isn't going to replace traditional advertising with this, however, every little bit sure helps. So why not encourage it.

Granted, CCP has little control over content though, so Malicious portrayals of the game could probably be done to; but seriously, most people that put the effort into making a video etc will probably portray the game in a "positive" light. I for one was brought in because of an awesome article on cracked.com, the 5 biggest **** moves in MMO history. This sort of non traditional advertising can be very effective.

It is also not uncommon for businesses to ask people to tell their friends, meaning requesting word of mouth advertising. So this is really no different except the media to be used has way more potential for distribution and influence.

Not nearly as bad as a bad poster that continues to subscribe just to make bad posts.

1/10 for missing the point entirely.

Begging the community to plug a product they obviously know better then the owners do seems to be a good ply in my eyes bravo for CCP in that respect. Things going 'viral' is a marketing tool everyone & thier mothers in advertising are trying to do right now using this shotgum approach to produce ALOT of stock footage is a wise thing for CCP marketing IMHO.

The players would get way more interesting video/sound of the battles than the devs.

I doubt CCP Devs have magic powers to tap in and listen on the players comms etc.

no its requesting more awesome videos, as they got slack recently on facebook for advertising a goon video and not others, hence request for "other" videos lol

Nothing new. If you check latest "expansions" you can recognize EVE is on backburner for a couple of years already. Thanks to WoD and Dust projects. Also players have better knowledge of the game and aren't involved into bureaucracy - so they have certain advantages against company's own stuff.

Could be more fun if there was advertisement contest among players - with ships as prizes.

CCP have sent out surveys and found that most people who play the game long term have found out about the game from other players.. this just makes sense... player made ads can be very good.
