I've been posting in many forums over the years: the Something Awful forums, the battle.net forums, MMORPG.com and all the other comment boards of IGN and massively.com - but Eve Online has one of the most disgusting forums on the internet. Let me tell you why:

- Arguments repeat themselves, over, and over again: buff Hulks, nerf hulks, buff titans, nerf titans, ban Mittani, free Mittani....
- The ISD team are extremely hostile, and threads are being locked like crazy - for only minor offences
- 99% of the time, forum bans apply to only a single character (I would know). For a game which encourages multi-box play, this is absolutely ludicrous.
- People like me, make threads complaining about other ****** threads - and end up getting even more threads locked.

This is how you fix the above issues:

- Loosen the ISDs' involvement in forum moderation
- Ban IPs, accounts - both in game and out of game
- Have a clear set of rules which are displayed in either a pop-up or bold menu link - not on a hidden wiki page

Note: If you lock this thread, these forums will burn and shrivel. Listen to my ideas, and then maybe you devs will have a better understanding of your own players' ideas - streamlining the feedback, input and development process.

You scrubs get the forums you deserve.

How rude... Typical bad posting on the EVE forums

These forums reminds me of the local shop that was in town. A lot of the men folk used to hang around there on the account that it were not really a drinking establishment but it were if you know what I mean. Well there used to be fights and arguments just about every day. There were this one time we went down there to see what were goin on that day. You see we used to find out if anyone needed any help and we might get a little scratch if we played our cards right you see. House work, mowin, or whatever. Times were tough, much like it is today and we had to do what we could to get by.

^ They are just saying the heavy handed ISD make them angry and stuff, which forces them to be such bad posters. Its a valid point, though who knows if true or not.

No one has a gun to these peoples heads forcing them to do anything of the kind. Do not try and lay the blame for other peoples actions at the feet of the staff, that is as far from a valid point as you could possibly get.

^ Ah so wise, yes ISD do not have guns. Thanks. They can do something else, and I am sure you are smart enough to know it. Also don't lay blame at feet of staff, that is kind of funny. You are right though once again, I should tell blizzard that ISD are annoying, not EVE's staff

Of course you are a free range sheriff right now, not owning any ties to companies or something. So I can see how you can get confused to what appropriate courses of actions are.

removal of complete and standard BBcodes is the main reason...

there are obvious trolls, which is its own art and much perfected here

but frankly I find it refreshing to be on forums where people aren't afraid to call a spade a spade

and if you're too stupid to use google, you deserve what you get

regardless, I've seen people take pity and help the google-fools

so, sorry they ain't all bad

and anyway, passion inspires passion

even, occasionally lust as well

this is being a gamer, nothing wrong with that

It may be worth considering that if CCP was inundated with ISD related petitions regarding their misconduct but they didn't have the fallback of pointing to several strait pages of locked retaliatory spam threads, we might see CCP looking at this from a different angle. Regardless of who is starting it, lashing out and exasperating the issue helps who exactly?

It helps me mostly. And I thought if people did petition over ISD, CCP would just state, they are understaffed as a company and these are the only people willing to help out. So give them time, help them work out their kinks, then enjoy better forums. Alot of companies just say they are understaffed to explain problems.

I am not sure how long you have been playing, but I clearly remember a time when all the **** posters stayed ONLY in the CAOD section of the forums. For some reason that I cannot explain, in the past 1-2 years the asshatery of that section has trickled out to all of the rest of the forums sections and have become the norm. Ultimately, it has to do with CCP's complete lack of rule enforcement which has bred an environment that favors the loud, the immature, the hateful and the obnoxious. That's not a good business model IMO.

Eh, who really cares? These forums were a total shithole long before ISD showed up. They're just accelerating the decline into a carebear feel-good circlejerk forum, much like the players behind them want to do to Eve as a whole. As long as their power is restricted to the forums, it really doesn't matter.

What exactly are you talking about? You stated that the actions of the ISD forced people to be vulgar, abusive and disruptive. I merely pointed out that the choice of how to act was entirely down to the people posting on the forums.

There were two courses of action available to people. They could either voice their displeasure in an adult fashion, detailing clearly their grievances, citing examples if possible and perhaps even noting ways in which the situation could be improved.

Then there is the other course of action. Go to the forums, make multiple threads lacking content, context or discussion of any usable nature. Then proceed to hurl abuse, make attacks of a personal nature and cause endless disruption.

Neither of those options, if looked at by a reasonable adult, would require coercion, force or threats of any kind. Proof of what I am saying is readily available in multiple places. There are those people who made a choice in the beginning to take option number one, some of those people are now taking the second option, they are making choices.

In fact I am going to use one of those people as an example, and I hope he takes it as the compliment that it is meant to be. Ruby Porto, now posting on his alt Pipa Porto, was one of the people who at first chose option one to air their grievances. However, as soon as it became clear that that option was not viable, and as soon as suitable lines of communication became available, he switched to option two and has, for the most part, done a fairly good job of attempting rational discourse.

No one from CCP or the ISD has forced him to do this, he could have sat back and said nothing more or even continued to be aggressive, but clearly he feels that this is something he can contribute to, and as such has made the choice to take the second option and at least try to post responsibly.

As to the rest of your reply, frankly I have no idea what you are on about.

^ Ah I see, you just want everyone to be more adult. That is fine. I do forget there are people like that really. So it is good to be refreshed on that. Of course not everyone is like that, so the battle will propably be hard, at least you do have allies though. I did remember Ruby, but I havn't played recently so I didn't know his story, thanks.

been on battle.net forums, still think this place is worse.

sure thing buddy, sure thing...

You may laugh and ridicule the WoW players - but they have enthusasism and spirit for the game they love and play. Sure, there is moaning and complaining, but ideas are actually built upon - and people want one thing, a better game. Here, its all negative and firey.

no, they don't.

they can't spell, they don't understand the basic game mechanics of such a simple game and they have the combined analytical skills of a ******** goldfish.
if you play wow and you want answers to questions you head over to the ej forums, not the battle.net forums.

blizzard had to add an extra difficulty setting to their dungeons, below the current difficulty, so people could actually see the content because the vast majority of players are so bad at the game. then on top of that, so they didn't get left out of getting the good loot, they made the other two difficulties lower themselves over time.

when your player base is that bad you have to design content that gets easier over time to cater to them, you know you're taking money from the vulnerable.

Just making a point on the highlighted section:

Really? They (WoW players) can't spell? Have you read these forums lately? I can't begin to count the number of people who don't the difference between "there", "their" and "they're"; and "your" and "you're".

The other items I have mixed feelings about. However, the progressive murder of the English language has always been an irritation to me.

Eve forum is only bad because of Trolling 'forum alts'

Battlenets forums aren't that bad, sure they aren't brilliant but they aren't the worst forums on the planet.
FM's forums probably have the highest concentration of grammar nazi's.

LoL's forums are the worst I've ever seen anywhere.

Yeah ISD should be constructive as well, if they demand that from us. Teach us. Teach us how not to be abusive to CCP staff and what is wrong with personal attacks.

I want to build with you, but I just don't know how to.

They don't want to build anything, they just want to be able to do something to players they don't like, but can't face in the game itself (ie goons and goon allies), so they lash out the only way they can, on the forums. It's a power trip, pure and simple, and I'm not at all surprised CCP didn't consider something exactly like this would happen before allowing player volunteers to police the forums.

I swear, if this keeps up and CCP doesn't fix it, I'm going to...

...continue to play Eve and openly mock the ISD until I get banned from the forums.
