State that you want to use Chribba's service as a third party holder.

Confirming the above poster. I use security deposits for my corp for similar reasons. It is standard practice for most high quality corps.

Doesn't sound legit to me. Especially without using a third party escrow until certain conditions are met. They have already looked at my wallet per required api submission and use that to determine how much they can ask of me. That is bullshit, if they require a security deposit it should damn well be stated in their recruitment information, and be a set amount.

Clearly this is not the corp for you to join then, move on and find another corp. Trust no one, especially a corp that asks for a security deposit to join. I certainly don't.

Caution, rubber gloves and faceshield required when handling this equipment.

And how are things going in the internet-famous Imperial Order of Templars?

OP, long story short, if you want to get into a big, active, successful alliance, you will be putting up some kind of collateral. It sucks, but its a way bigger risk for the corp to bring on a potential spy/awoxer than it is for you to bicker about an inconsequential amount of isk that you're going to get back anyway. When you do big things in Eve, you make big enemies, and you have to have some kind of gateway to try and screen them. It isn't perfect, but it's a hell of a lot better than nothing.

Those corps don't get so big by just letting everyone who asks in, no questions asked. I'd be more suspicious of a corp that didn't require it. They're either so small and poor they're desperate for any ass who will join, or they're setting you up to steal all your ****.

Or perhaps you just didn't make the cut. If our security check picks up that you are a spy trying to get in, don't be all surprised when you don't get the deposit back. No corp is so cordial with potential threats trying to infiltrate. It also comes with being big and successful, just check any thread in GD. "Goons are scammers, goons are botters, goons are really carebears after all, goons really suck at this game, etc, etc." Because, of course, we owe our size and success to scamming all potential recruits and never recruiting anyone into our corp.

Sour grapes.

Official Recruiter for GoonSwarm Corporation.

If you paid isk to get into GoonSwarm, you were probably scammed.  If you had the foresight to save the name of your scammer, let me know and I'll do what I can to help you.

Looks to me like the other people that would like to use the same type of behavior chimed up first, good to see that there are some reasonable people joining in on the discussion. Especially since this is a 3 year old toon with a stable history.

I'm surprised after 3 years of playing you haven't realized that this is a common scam.

I have a lover, her name is EVE. I see her every night and all she asks in return is that I have a pilot's license.

*Security, and use a trusted third party if you decide too. Maybe even send a evemail to the corp CEO; and make sure said member isn't using the corps name for their own benefeit.

i apologise for my brethren's behaviour, if you speak to Blawrf Taggert or Woo Glin they will certainly help you join Almighty GoonWaffe and restore your former assets to you, provided that it wasnt for the reasons listed here:

What kind of corp would ask for this as a condition of you joining?

I recently applied to a corporation and they asked me for this stating that I was a former member of an opposing coalition 2 years ago for 3 months. Does this make sense to anyone except as a way to rip someone off?

don't listen to them , you gonna get scammed .

3 options:

1. A fool and his isk are soon parted
2. TRUSTED third party holds the security deposit
3. Look for another corp

Good corps don't charge an entrance fee, period. Anyone who says other wise is scamming you.
