So then both are good at what they do. It is a difference in play style. Some people prefer the tank and some people prefer the deeps. Both are solid ships though. The Scorpion is just better looking. Cool

Its true half the reason to fly the SNI is for the looks. now to clear a few things up I never said the SNI would do more EFT damage. I will argue however that it can apply more damage to anything smaller then a battleship (use extra mids and put on target painters). The SNI allows for a variety of different fits where, with the CNR its mostly the question of whether its pimped or not.

There's no doubt that a SNI tanks better, but who cares? My CNR doesn't die and it does a full 20% more damage.

Yes and your resist profile is horrendous. have fun doing missions that require you to tank more then 1 or 2 damage types.

I almost just stepped onto my soap box and started going on about how missions are too much of an ideal environment but I stopped myself....just barely.

OK, we're just not going to agree on this. It is pointless to argue any further.

I will agree that missions are too ideal an environment. My crappy resist profile just doesn't matter because I only need to tank 2 resists anyway.

May sound a bit stupid, but if you're looking to branch out from Caldari into other races' BS for missioning, the Maelstrom might not be a bad intermediate step before you step into a Vargur or Machariel.

Up side: once you've got good active shield tanking skills for a Raven or CNR, those skills will carry over to the Mael nicely (and the tank modules can pretty much just be transferred over), and as you train up the Minmatar Battleship skill, the Mael's defensive bonus is like having a free shield boost amp built into the hull. The Maelstrom's built like a brick smokehouse.

Down side: it moves like a brick smokehouse. Plus training up battleship projectile weapons from scratch is a hellaciously long train. On the other hand, if you want to go Vargur/Machariel, you've got to train up the projectile skills anyway. And getting the prerequisites for Marauders is hellaciously long, and you've got to train up Gallente battleship skills to get into the Machariel, so you'll probably be ready for the Maelstrom first, anyway.

And the Vargur and Machariel each cost five times as much as a Maelstrom, too, so if you're not rich enough for them, the Mael's a good intermediate step ISK-wise as well.

Good info here. Most Minmatar ships are excellent cross-overs for Caldari based pilots because many are shield tanked and, thus, require those and all the support skills you likely already have.

Vargur is an excellent ship to work up to for Caldari-Minmatar cross-overs. You will certainly need to train up all the projectile turret and support skills in order to do so, but it may be worth the effort on the back end. The Vargur is head and shoulders above the Golem in terms of damage application (i.e. real DPS), though, as mentioned, the training requirements are awful.

The Mach does require you to train into Gallente, but is considered by many to be the best mission ship out there (for all rats other than Sansha, Drones and to a lesser degree, Blood Raiders).
