Please make it so that disconnecting in the arena doesn't make the ship explode. I can't see the harm in just making the ship stay there as if it's pointed/in a bubble (no emergency warp) and give the pilot a chance to reconnect. It's already very unlucky to have a pilot disconnect - there's no reason to make it worse by blowing his ship up right there on the spot.

Support this. You could just activate the bubble with 125km range when the countdown ticks down.
As far as i know shadow cartel lost their proteus to a disconnect today, just as the match started, which is really unfortunate, but can happen when you have people from all over the world playing.

It used to be this way.

The "small technical difficulty" they refer to is our Guardian disconnecting. He took several minutes to reconnect but they held up the match for us long enough for him to connect. I don't know if we should do that, but letting the ship not explode seems quite reasonable.

Incidentally, if you get bored with that video and want to watch pew, click forward to roughly 4:00 where the match finally starts as our Guardian reconnects.

Well, this was before the match started so i can see why they decided to wait.

If it happens in the middle of a match, obviously the ship will continue doing what it did, this includes running out of boundary by itself if it takes you too long to reconnect. This also means that it will continue to shoot the enemy, or apply reps to friendlies, but i dont see why any these should be penalized if you disconnect.

Actually Karah, I agree with you, I had a reading comprehension fail and didn't realize that we were discussing disconnecting in the middle of a match. I didn't watch all of the matches this morning because :USTZ:.

I could see how it could be exploited if a disconnect resulted in anything other than the ship exploding (certainly no EVE players anywhere have ever abused methods involving closing game clients to somehow strategically benefit themselves or their side of a fight, never).

Sucks, but that's the way it's gotta be.

Perhaps I'm missing something. How could it benefit someone to disconnect under the proposed mechanic (that is, no emergency warp)?

It would be good if there was a giant invisible bubble put up around the tournament once match started to prevent emergency warps. Having an important ship disconnect for even a minute is probably already going to lose most fights where it would have mattered anyway though.
