I was under the impression from the rules that the tactic from previous years of bringing under - pointed setups with the goal of getting more points if you win - was not valid this year around:

Quote:
If a team chooses to field less than 100 points, non-fielded points count towards the opponent's score.

This rule applies to the 50 point limit during Pre-Qualifying, not 100 points.

There was at least one fight yesterday where a team brought 49 points and the opposing team started with one point which would appear to confirm this. (CBA to trawl through youtube but it certainly happened)

However the commentators keep talking about doing these hail mary setups in order to make it through to the next round - are they talking about this and just misinformed (wouldnt be the first time :P ) or am I missing something? - Can a dev confirm whether this is valid or not - kinda matters to us if we are going to try to improve our chances of making it to the next round.

The rule involved in a hail mary setup is found at: http://community.eveonline.com/en/tournament/format

Quote:

Intentional Handicaps

If a team begins the match with less points value worth of ships than their opponent, and wins the match, they score extra ranking points equal to the difference in the two teams' values.

That rule is exactly the same as it was last year. If you bring less than 50 points to a match your opponent gets the points you're not bringing, but if you win and brought fewer points than your opponent you still get the difference as a bonus.

Hail mary setups work exactly the same this year as last.
