Need a Gallente-space MR

I've spent the last 2 or 3 years in Amarr space, happily using a Nightmare to blast Sansha and Blood. I obliterated my Gallente standings as I never needed to go out there before, and got all the way to -10.

In the last few weeks I've had a need to go to Gallente space, and run missions out there. So I fixed my standings, and am now able to access lvl 3 agents with Quafe - and marching rapidly on towards lvl 4 access.

It's highly unlikely that my Nightmare will be doing anything other than gathering dust so I'm in need of a new ship, something that can blitz through the missions in a fashion I'm accustomed to already. I will be fighting mainly Serpentis and I imagine will therefore be sensor-damped to death.

Requirements for new ship:
Arrow No missiles. 17.9mil SP in gunnery; 100k SP in missiles. Plus I hate Ravens Twisted
Arrow Preferably Minmatar, I'm swinging towards Sleipnir or Vargur.

I am open to suggestions. Obviously projectiles aren't brilliant against something that tanks kin/therm, so I am also toying with the possibility of a Hyperion, or even a Vindicator? What an Ishtar, now we have a drone-boosting low slot?

The Gaming MoD - retro to modern, console to MMO, I blog about it if it's a game and I'm interested in it. Yes, I play games other than Eve and I don't care if you think I'm wrong.

The Minmatar and Gallente agents I've used in Amarr space have dropped primarily Serpentis, Sansha and "mission generic" missions, so you can probably "practice" without leaving Amarr space. While serps are weak to kin/therm and a fellow pilot missions with a Napoc in Gallente space to good effect, if you plan on moving to Gallente space and running missions for any length of time you're going to run into Angel a fair amount. And by "a fair amount" I mean every two to three missions.

Given your listed options I'd suggest the Vargur. While I haven't used one personally (I spam the missiles and boat the drones for the most part), Phased Plasma chews up Serpentis nicely and you can easily switch to Fusion for Angels or EMP for the odd Sansha/Blood/Rogue Drone mission.

The only Guristas mission that drops with any regularity in the Gallente space I've run in is Worlds Collide, and they're optional.

Serpentis do tend to damp - the only missions where I've found damps knocking my targeting range down to the single digits are Blockade and the first (and sometimes second) room of The Assault.

Oh, and depending on the state of your standings and how serious you are about bringing up Gallente at the expense of Amarr... if your Minmatar standing is non-horrible, consider grinding for Impetus. They have agents in Amarr and Minmatar space, and getting solid standing with them will unlock the Gallente Epic Arc. Faster to grind through one corp than it is to get the faction itself high enough.

If you can fly one, just go with a Machariel. Vargur would be a decent second option. Phased Plasma chews through Serpentis, and you'll get a decent mix of Angel missions as well (depending on the agent), so being able to switch to Fusion is great. I've tried all number of ships in Gallente space and ended up being happiest in a Mach.

A nice cheap hurricane with emp or explosive ammo perhaps?

Cane for L3 sure...for L4, not so much.

If you're wanting to test out minmatar, the maelstrom is a good ship to start with.

the vindi seems like a very good ship, I haven't gotten to test mine much, but from what I've seen so far I like it (vs guristas). the kronos seems pretty awesome too. mach/varg are also pretty awesome, but from what I remember a lot of serp ships are pretty far off where I'd rather have the optimal of railguns than the falloff from acs. then again the mwd mach is stupid fast. and phased plasma should do just fine on serps.

for a serp blockade the tengu is stupidly good, you can zoom zoom around and blitz in minutes, even when damped to hell. although I don't remember the damps being all that bad (maybe I got lucky?) but vindy and mach have the advantages of nice donebays so if you can get your sentries/heavies on the dampers you should be able to work through them quickly.

Vargur is good, never used sleipnir, maelstrom is good but sloooow. Then again if you're used to a nightmare, maybe the speed won't trouble you.
