So, I started Eve about 6-7 months ago but I ended up not being able to play due to too much crap irl. So, now I'm actually back, I've trained up some skills, and I'm ready to go have fun!

I have Amarr Frigate 5 and Assault Ships 5. Plus I've gotten most of my support skills to 4 and 5. I can use small T2 lasers and T2 rockets. So, I was thinking of trying the Amarr AFs though it seems like they aren't the most stellar in the game.

Can anyone suggest fittings for the Amarr AFs? I've been trying the punisher but so far I've died once, run away lots, and generally found it pretty damn hard to find people to fight in lowsec.

Hey, at least I've only lost one so far!

just had a look at fitting the amarr AF's and there simply does not seem to be enough mids and grid to get everything you need fitted. but then again i could be wrong.
on the other hand they seem to come up with solid ehp so maybe fitted for tackle and tank they could fill a small gang role nicely. unfortunately they seem ill suited to solo pvp.

for PvE your better off in a cruiser/battlecruiser

If you're starting out in PVP, I'd highly suggest buying Punishers instead. For the price of one AF, you can buy several Punishers that'll fly in a similar fashion and get learning that way. Better to learn in Punishers than the more expensive ships!

The biggest tip I can give you is find a mentor that'll fly out with you and take you under their wing. You'll learn way more from flying together and possibly get more action that way.

The Gaming MoD - retro to modern, console to MMO, I blog about it if it's a game and I'm interested in it. Yes, I play games other than Eve and I don't care if you think I'm wrong.

Assault ships have always kinda been the homeless ship class. Yes, they're technically better than the T1 version when you look at the stats, but not so much better you can usually do wildly different fits, and given that their price tag has a couple extra zeroes at the end there's the question of if they're _enough_ better to justify the small gain.

Basically, what has already been said about flying Punishers. They're pretty awesome.

Assault frigates are a "Gang" ship. If you don't have a gang, don't fly an AF. For solo work you generally want a BC or HAC. Amar hac's don't do so hot in solo, so that leaves a Harbinger. It's a good ship. Fly it.

one of the best amarr frigs for pvp is the Navy Slicer. But I agree with someone above who said practice with a punisher first.
also get a good understanding of how certain ships are fitted and flown. for example understand the concept of kiting in a kiting ship

Don't worry at all about dying. That is the cornerstone of successful PVP, IMO. EXPECT to go out there and lose your ship. Good PVP requires that you take some risks. Remeber, you ARE immortal after all :p
Killboards, ultimately, don't matter a damn. What truly matters is the skill and instinct you are able to fly your ship with.

Newbie amarr pvp bible. He steps up to a Vengeance from the Punisher and appears to love it (if you are the brawler type).

I picked up a ton of good ideas from that blog. Its my 'go to' answer for most new pvp'er questions, amarr in particular.

As stated above, start with Punishers and practice first. You will save an absolute fortune over what you will spend if you start your pvp career in AF's (not saying weather you are bad or good, but most pple you will run into that live in low sec dont have many skills other than pvp, and they do it a lot so know all the games little nuances).

Thanks for the link! AND I can read it at work. Bonus!

Thanks for all the advice folks. Though I don't plan on flying anything larger than a frigate or destroyer for QUITE a while, I'll also keep the HACs and BCs in mind for things to work with later on.

I've been looking into the slicer and it looks like it could also be a lot of fun.

I have to admit, I really like the idea of brawling more than I do of kiting, though it seems like kiters trump brawlers. :( I'll have to look more into that.
