My friend and I (occasionally a third along) have just started playing EvE on fresh characters. These characters are not even a month old yet. I had some prior EvE experience mainly as a carebear on an old account years ago that I can't even remember the details of.My friend had never played the game before at all.

We decided to go full on PvP!

As soon as we could strap a few mods on our hulls we went into low sec. We have been reading up and using every resource available e.g. forums, battleclinic and some large well written guides. We have decided to that the best way to learn is by our mistakes.

So for just over a week or so we have been roaming low sec. Getting familiar with the directional scanner and pretty much picking fights with anything.

The reason for saying thank you is simple. The people that have killed us have been some of the friendliest people I have ever met in an online game Lol. I know there is a lot of tough talk on these forums but so far here is what we have encountered:

1. Fight goes down, generally we loose our ships.
2. People type "GF" in local
3. Some ISK lands in our personal wallet!!!
4. A private convo window opens, and we get really good advice and friendly chat!.

We have received ISK donations after four of our losses each time different people have donated the ISK. Some of the donations have been really quite significant. I won't embarrass the folks who are being so generous in case they try to maintain a "tough persona" on these forums.

Finally we have also managed to score a kill!!!

We got an Imperial Navy Slicer, and I have never "nerd cheered" so much into voice comms in my life!

We have never enjoyed a game as much and to be honest the community has really blown us away, it's not what we expected, especially if you let these forums form your opinion. The behavior of others has impressed me so much I thought it warranted a post!

Hopefully we will get more kills soon!

P.S.

Both of us have CQ disabled....

I'm in agreement, the friendliest people I've met in eve have all been in lowsec (or wormholes). It's kinda weird.

Awesome post.

Nice to see you getting stuck in, drop my low sec metropolis some time. You see me about be sure to ask me for a session of pew! I say that because in January I was in exactly the same boat, and an awesome corp took me on even though my only kill up to that point was a retriever I shot in high sec, didn't kill but 6 minutes later someone else did.

Did the same thing as you, grabbed a rifter and went out there..... was damn good fun. Made quite a few friends and I got the exact opposite impression of Eve these forums give off.

Keep on pewing! Oh also, don't forget to ransom the odd pod/ship now and then :P The amount of times I lost that opportunity is ridiculous.

The only people that are smacktards for the most part are the older players that get butthurt over losing, most of the time it's usually gf and lolz to be had.

Btw, go hang out near Decon and Old Man Star ;)

I remember making the mistake of jumping on contact into Decon.

I was in my Drake, and I was suddenly faced by an Abaddon, Phobos, Rook, and a whole lot of other nasty. I engaged for a bit until my shields started getting too low, and slow boated back to the gate, and started spamming Jump. Well, right before I jumped out of the system, the following popped up in local:

"damn fine tank mate."

"Ya, **** ain't no joke. o/"

The gate campers in question all had a -9 to -10 security status, but were still pretty cool. So not everyone in EVE is an *** hat. I just wish that more carebears would realize this, and venture out into low sec. They'd realize that it's actually a good time, and there are gf's and lulz to be had by all. I've lost ships, but I don't get mad about it. After all, they're only pixels.

I am the One who exists in Shadow. I am the Devil your parents warned you about.

Hi Deorum Viatores,

What a way to enjoy EVE! With guns blazing, right into the heat of the battle. The adrenaline rushing through your body, the victories so sweet, but the defeats not bitter - because of the awesome community!

As you'll learn, there are two types of conversation in Eve:

Conversation after killing a carebear: "yarghghghblblblbllllllleeee ... rabblerabble GREIFER!!!* yarblblblblb my boat! you suck!"
Translation: "Only IRL murderers would PVP. This makes you a bad person"

Conversation after a fight with a non-carebear: gf's all around, usually an honest appraisal of performance good and bad. You tend to learn stuff, even if you think you know it all by now.

Fight the "gf" - I hope you carry on the way you started :D

* usually spelt greiver, because they're smart lil cookies.

"Do not touch anything unnecessarily. Beware of pretty girls in dance halls and parks who may be spies, as well as bicycles, revolvers, uniforms, arms, dead horses, and men lying on roads -- they are not there accidentally." -Soviet infantry manual,

Contratulations on your first kill Saiyon, may it be the first of many! Big smile

I too have made some of my best eve-friends in low sec, I'm glad you didn't let the tone of the forums discourage you!

You will get the odd person who flames, but just chuckle to yourself and imagine them getting wound up over a pixel-game while you fit for the next battle :) Oh and trolls, yeah you'll get trolled for trying no doubt at some point, but elitist pr**ks are in any game, and they all had to start somewhere too! For the most part though it's GF's, lols, and people will respect you for actually trying!

Actually not really, it is usually new players that don't know **** and buys an older character. Then proceeds to throw their toys out the pram because they thought they bought an I WIN button.

It does not take long to pick that up.

Yep thats us the arby and the omen!

We got baited by a Maller who had a cyclone for back-up. We are pretty much hunting most of the time and stay out of the belts until we have something on d-scan then just go for it.

We also know to get our asses out when we see combat probes :)

When both parties understand it's just a game and accept that losing ships is a PART of that game, it's amazing how civil we all can be.

It's only when people become obsessed with kill ratios or carebearing that things get stupid.

Lol - I think it's because we can go for weeks without seeing new faces.

Also - If you are ever near Aurohunen (4 jumps from jita, in low sec) - Come around I'll be happy to pew and go pewing with you guys.

I must say this is the best thread I have come across in a long time.

It's wonderful to see people having good "sportsmanship" if you will, and being willing to help others. The kids that rage over a loss need to just go home. When I go PvP I expect to lose everything. That way no matter what happens, it was all good fun.

Remember - Execute Violently. And Fly safe. All at once.

A non-troll thread on my C&P?!

But, yeah, low sec people are actually pretty nice guys. My corp got decked for a while, and I have a evemail (if anyone is interested, send me a mail) from one of them wherein they called us all a bunch of limp phalluses. Not very nice. Of course, high sec pvp lol, and all that good stuff, but it was pretty stupid.

Conversely, you blow up someone's 'cane or they blow up your 'cane in lowsec and it's all good fights in local and a hearty bit of laughing. I was sitting on a gate in a SB watching a gate camp, and they let a Feninir warp away to lolz and hilarity in local, and it was all in good fun.
