I had no idea it was going to be so...brown. It was royal looking with red and gold; what happened CCP? Did concord levy a paint tax on ship manufacturers or something?

The old bright Red & Gold didn't speak "royal" to me. It spoke Babbys First Toy by Fisher Price.

I totally agree with you. In the end, I think I can live with most of the V3 changes, but the choices for Amarr T2 ships are just plain annoying. The sleek black Khanid ships became grey with black trim, and the gold-and-red parade colors of the Carthum ships became... brown and burgundy? Really? Not to mention it's almost impossible to distinguish the Viziam ships now that they've darkened the T1s so much.

What would speak royal to you, if not bright, bold colors?

I'm also really dissappointed with the new "art". My hauler uses minmi ships and the Mastodon is horrible. It had the redish rust color with black patches, now is looks like the inside of the Minmi station, it is so ugly I don't even want to spin it much less fly it.

The Prowler is even worse, it had some really cool art effects that were removed.

You know the old saying about "starving artists", well, maybe they are starving because the drew ships like these?

They also of course ruined the Drake.

It could also be the "light" from the region of space your in, I found this makes a great impact on the ships skins, for instance in Molden Heath - the minnies look almost "pink" as a salmon not even brown at all... CCP in making each region have a specific "color" seems to have painted themselves into perhaps a bit of a box where they can't control the lighting on the ship evenly and so they can't really make proper corrections to a ship until that is adjusted to a basic "white light" on the ships at least, it was a nice idea to change the lighting to the region but I think in the end the havoc it plays with the ships colors will force it to be changed back to previous states and then it will be time to adjust the colors - not I am not saying the backdrops, I am saying the light in the light box will have to be from a colored to a neutral to make things work... or you will still have this odd color one place or too dark and so on...

I did notice in the last patch that Domain is a lot less "bright golden" and more "white light" so it seems there may be some tweeking going on with it already - I did read they would be adjusting this sometime in the future if I recall correctly in a dev blog.

My question is:

Is any "new" design better? 'Cause I haven't seen one yet.

Premium moniter, Premium Graphics Card, for this ****. wtf?

Yep, all we are getting now is earth tones for amarr and chopping off of wingy bits such as ears and drosal fins (and where's the swirley on the prowler? Sad) for minmatar.

I obviously can't speak for everyone, but for me at least I'm certain that my monitor and eyes are functioning properly. The blacks are black, the whites are white, the reds are red, and the horrible goldish-brown and burgundy are a horrible goldish-brown and burgundy. And I'm no graphics design expert, but I know I can distinguish between color shades better than the average person, at least.

Again I can't necessarily speak for every ship, but I do personally fly a curse and pilgrim, the arbitrator hull is probably my favorite in the game. I've flown them in many different lights, and the colors are still terrible. In fact, the pilgrim looks even worse in space than it does in the preview screen most of the time, it tends to be extremely difficult to even tell it's not an arbitrator, until you look really close and then ugh.

I do agree with your points about the backdrops though. I think they should dial it back some, but I also don't think they should let the background lighting prevent them from making ships a bright color. It really seems to me like the new shader is controlling the graphics team, and not vice versa.

Must say that this dark murry-brown thing they gone for is going to far. The guardian was one of the coolest looking ships in eve imo, much because of that "royal" gold and red.

Yes, Eve is supposed to be a dark, hard place, but restricting yourself to five different shades of brown is just silly. For what? Do they have a We can't have it look like WoW and my little pony-sicknes in the design department?

Don't forget the most tragic loss:

The frills and spikes on the Vagabond.

No more does it look like that spitting dino in Jurassic Park. Y'know, the one that was my favourite as a kid?

Space. It seems to go on and on forever. But then you get to the end and a gorilla starts throwing barrels at you.

Agreed, I've always had a thing for guardians not only because of what they did on the battlefield, but what they looked like while doing it. I guess one out of two is.....uhh okay.

Proteus also looks like an ordinary Sigil now. At least bring back the blue lights or something.
