Mining - now harder to be away walking my dog

Its really tough these days being a miner because until a week or so ago I could set up mining plus defense drones then go away for a while and walk my dog.

Now with these Socket Closed errors I'm having to pay more attention and even use a mouse-mover app to try and keep the Socket Closed errors away.

If my poor dog understood she'd petition CCP to get them fixed soon.

Strange, I've been popped so many times but never while away walking my dog.

Serious though, if its bad for me then it must be hellish getting a Socket Closed error during PVP.

I hope you're trolling... Because I'm pretty sure that counts as automated play, while afk... Perhaps I'm wrong.

If it's just an app that moves the pointer minutely to indicate activity then he should be fine, I use a similar thing if I'm at keyboard but not doing any mouse of KB inputs to stop my machine going into sleep mode.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

May I suggest you look into modifying your windows power settings? You can set a power profile that requires no dickery.

It was a Windows CE system, now running a low powered linux thin client, it's so old I'm not even sure if power profiles are even available, it just drops of to sleep if no inputs in 30 minutes regardless of it doing something like streaming internet radio.

I wasn't actually trolling btw Lol

This same troll could have been written from the point of view of an AFK Cloaker. And the mouse app in the story could be changed with some mechanical device like:

"I usually keep an old fan on the PC desk, next to the mouse. The fan vibrates and moves the mouse a few pixels, keeping the system from going into sleep mode"

Or go overboard like:

"Trying to keep the socket errors at bay in an EULA compliant way, I move out of my apartment and I now live next to the train tracks. I AFK Cloak and walk the dog during amtrak's busy times. The trains going in and out make the whole place shake, moving the mouse a bit and keeping the connection open."

Is still a good troll tho. I like the part of the dog making a petition.

"This is the Ninja. He will scan you down; he will salvage your wrecks and there shall be no aggro"

You know, I haven't been having any problems. What system/belt do you usually mine in? And what time will you be there next?

Maybe we can help you work this out.

Spend more time with your dog and less time posting nonsense.

There is a serious side to this concerning socket close errors and I'm not the only one suffering from them (and my dog) :-

Some players suspect the lack of player interaction(keyboard or mouse) with Eve client is causing the problem whereas a few weeks ago one could leave the computer to go for a cuppa etc or to walk the dog.

Yeah I get those too. And I'm running 3 clients... one would crap-out while the others are still ok. It's weird.

We should coin a term for getting this socket errors.... how about:

Pilot one: "Dude! you dissapear in mid mid-flight"
Pilot Two: "yeah, I got socketed".

"This is the Ninja. He will scan you down; he will salvage your wrecks and there shall be no aggro"

Just throw a wireless mouse into the treadmill along with the dog and it will show occasional signs of activity too...
