Every time I decide my avatar needs a major makeover, I spend about 4 or more hours with the editor trying to get everything just so.

Anyone else?

When the editor first came out and all the 'beauty contest' sites and threads popped up, I did spend quite a bit of time making perfect female characters. At one point I had 5 characters in the top 10 on all the popular sites that were up at the time.

I don't spend as much much time these days as I only make four new characters every six months and I need to keep them pretty generic as they are created solely for the character bazaar.

@Gibbo

Well, I'm not referring to people that do it on a daily basis. I do mine every few years. But when I do, I spent a lot of time getting it "right."

Anyway, I already know tons of people don't care. I was asking about those that do, not those that don't.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

Old Halete . Essentially barely changed - but unfortunately I don't have that image. The straightforward hot-heated young Minmatar pilot with a chip on her shoulder and a tiny ship.

Went on a stint as a corporate and ended up with the extremely bitter, cynical dirty tribal in a suit.

Changed dresses as I change 'Outfits' and ended up with broken necks in my attempts to settle on a portrait during the time as clipping issues existed with the dress at the time, as well as getting more inked and re-pierced.

As she interacted with more people (and indeed explored boosters) we started to see by the power of FRIENDSHIP, a softer side infrequently emerge.

Separating from that unit, Halete found herself more comfortable in the clothes she wore as a free-lance before taking to the boardroom, sporting a look that was more her, more attitude.

Although she still finds herself in the boardroom from time to time, she's quite undeniably Minmatar and stronger from her journey.

I keep getting lost in it!

the other day I was going to help CCP Paradox with some testing and I needed to create a new character and create a corporation and then in 15 minutes he asked me "are you done yet?"

"erm no... I'm still deciding what my newly created Caldari female should wear and I'm not totally sure about the hair style either"

and I've done this A MILLION times at least

So this is why the game is ****** up non stop... rather than testing anything you people jerk off making barbies in the room.

I did initially, but that is because I had a low end GFX card and it was during the first release (ie lag fest).

I actually haven't done anything much since then... other than redo the photo.

I spent lots of time once then my pc ran out of memory, eve crashed, windows got stuck and i had to hard reset ... since then i've been very wary of the editor lol

(It didn't help that I had some other MMO and a bunch of IE pages open in the background) Roll

I have probably spent around 12-15 hours total in the character creation screen in .5-1h sessions not to make my old pc run out of memory.

[offtopic]
The character creation screen is the only place I use good quality graphics since having it while playing will kill my memory under the hour giving me 5-10 seconds memory dumps.

The longest time I have spent in the character creator was when I tried to recreate my avatar again after the crucible expansion had nuked it...
I have learned my lesson and will never try to change it again, no matter what shinies ccp will offer.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

Half of the face vanished...there were several characters affected who tried to recustomize on the first day of the expansion. The bug has been fixed the next day, but still I needed to redo my portrait....

One of the most challenging things about these characters is that they're so ... biologically unique and difficult to precisely replicate. Play around on singularity and good luck ever getting the same result on TQ. Make edits on TQ and good luck reverting them several days later due to the extreme potential for subtle changes.

REMEMBER THAT TUCKING. Is controlled by the item being tucked into.

No. I do as little work with it as possible. It lags like crap on my desktop, I can't hold the mouse still long enough for changes to update, I can't get the hang of what draggy bit affects what, and I'm no good at faces.
The goggles are a GODSEND.

Hell, it took me months just to get rid of a stupid duck pout.

i admit that i've spent a good deal of time working on this girl, she's by far my favorite of all my toons... but sadly she'll never be perfect. she was at one point, but then ccp had to go and change the base model/skeleton when they released that last patch before incarna, she's never been the same since then.

Yes, that's one of the most amazing feats of the creator. Even now that we can store the pose, the characters refuse to look the same because of the intrincate interaction of animations and timing. One of the most difficult things to achieve when I fine tuned Indahamwar's last portrait was to get that her lips looked exactly as in the first shot.

One of the tricks i use when it suits the portrait, is to wait for the "natural smile" that cycles each 30 or 40 seconds. That allows for a more or less accurate timing of the shot (albeit I think it's not exactly synchronyzed to the breathe animation).
