I hate you IT guys!

I'm your huckleberry!

Also, if your IT buddies work on the server end they probably don't know what's wrong with your Vista fail-in-a-box. Active Directory, Group Policy, database management and all that jazz have only the most tangential relation to the OS on your home PC.

I am an IT guy. Been one for a few decades. My ex wife left me and started screwing every one in site, my son was ripped from my arms never to see again, I got kicked out of my house by the landlords because they wanted more money for the Olympics. Getting made redundant at work because they want cheaper staff from overseas and my pet cat died. But every day every hour every minet I have to say every time. How can I help you.  How can I fix your problems. No one ever cared about my problems. Only time any one talks to me is to fix their problems. You hate us IT guys? That's ok I hate every one. People in my book = problems.

yep, and I just entered that beautiful career path What?

Lol don't mind me I'm not bitter. ... I just sound it. I'm really well placed in my life right now. Let me tell you a story. Two guys have been going to this local bar for years. Best friends. When some one in the bar falls on the floor. Quick some one call a doctor. No need said one of the guys I'm a doctor. He helps the fallen person and alls well. Later his friend said "we have been drinking here for years. Why have you never told me your a doctor" wait and see said the doctor. And in just a few more seconds some one came up to him and said " hey I've got this pain in my wrist. Could you take a look at for me please?" and with that the doctor put down his drink and never returned to that pub again. That's the story and that is exactly what it's like being an IT worker. It's a thankless task. People always want you to fix their problems and you get nothing but greef in return.

This is the best post I have seen in months. I should print this and frame it and hang it on the wall. :D

So there are people that actually use Vista instead of either WinXP or Win7 ?
And get Chrome or Firefox already. IE has no business ever being willingly started.

Kidding aside - I have set some time (err, Austin Powers) aside this weekend to migrate off of Vista. My post is mainly in jest of how the considerable amount of "IT buddy Admin/managers" friends I have that aren't really sure what I need to do. So going to chalk it up to remote desktop confusion, buy a 12-pack and head over to their house for a day of fun and com-puu-tar fixin'.

Thats mostly because probably at some point they helped people but then it turned into "Free IT support for friends, family and relatives I didn't even know about" which usually involves people who aren't willing to learn anything.

I do the same this days and if people ask me anything I just go: Oh no, I just write code you see, don't know anything about fixing things.

*eyetwitch* Vista...

Sorry. A year and a half doing tier 1 and tier 2 tech support just hit me outta nowhere as soon as I read that. XP, 7, Lion and Snow Leopard are pretty much the OSes I've seen that are even remotely workable. Vista's that one kid on the back of the bus who throws wadded-up paper at everyone from the safety of his football helmet. But before we go way off the beaten path with this rant...

Now... normally since I troubleshoot for an ISP and not for a computer company, I'd shuffle this off to the manufacturer, but that's just me. And for the record, the most reliable way to get rid of that error with ieframe.dll is to just upgrade to 7 and get it over with. There's other ways to do it (for the life of me, I can't remember how to uninstall IE and reinstall it, if there's even a way), but upgrading is the most painless.

Same here. I think most IT folks hate doing IT work off of their work hours. I do infrastructure work, not PC's, so I tell friends/family that I don't work with PCs and I'm "not very good with them". Seems to work most of the time.

no joke I got that while trouble shooting with someone when I worked for Comcast. After that I simply informed them to contact and electrician as soon as possible because they had a fire hazard.

Funny - Tyreul and Hawk are right. Buddies are server and sales mainly and to a man joked that I should take Visat out back and shoot it.

And again, just joking with them about the frustration really because I do Google and am a little savvy, and one writes:

"You can't imagine the people I have to deal with.  I have to help remote users understand how to reset a password and it sometimes takes me 1 hour to do that.  It is very frustrating."

Made me laugh.
