New Laptop for EVE

All,

I am in need of a new laptop to play EVE, old Dell Inspiron 1520 is just not cutting it anymore. Laptop is the only factor, desktops are not an option. Don't paticularly want to buy a Dell Alienware (for a whole host of reasons) and I have ~€1800 to spend.

I've heard good things about Asus and I found these two http://www.eurieka.ie/products.asp?partno=G53SX%2DIX122V and http://www.eurieka.ie/products.asp?partno=VX7SX%2DS1126Z . Novatech look good too but the advantage of buying the two aforementioned laptops is that i can get a refund on the VAT Big smile

Could anybody offer any advice and comments? and note a 17 inch laptop would be too big for my needs.

I'm not sure about the Asus laptops but they should do fine. Also if you are not totally against alienware I currently have a M14x and am very pleased with its performance. Overall though just about any semi-modern laptop should play EVE, it looks nice but it's not an incredibly difficult game to run effectively.

First one has a pretty crappy LISTED resolution (1366 x 768 is low for a laptop nowadays), and you really want a high resolution for EVE with the many windows you'll need open.
I know that line has versions that support FullHD resolution, can't you find one that does ?
Both have the same video card (just more RAM which you won't notice much on the second one) and are a bit expensive for my taste.
If you have to get one, I'd go with the second.

Also, you don't want a 17" one because it's too big and you can't be bothered to haul it around, or you don't want one because you fear it might be too expensive ? The distinction is very important, because if it's the price, just go for an Asus G74, it's not really that much more expensive.

Yes in deed thay are, however they don't deliver to where I live Cry.

Akita T: yes those Asus laptops look overpriced for what they give you, and my aversion to 17inch is both size and price.

Demonthese2211: I had another look at the Alienware M14x and with some mild pimping it certainly looks good value for money. I'm not DELL's no.1 fan after spending a month trying to convince their Tech Support to send an FSE as my wireless card had died.

So it looks like its going to be an alienware M14x then.
