So is the thread AFK cloaking, about AFK cloaking, or... an AFK cloaking thread about AFK cloaking? Shocked

A stealth stealth thread? Big smile

It hides until you thought it was gone... then suddenly pops up and ruins your day.

Was thinking of a neat new item, I think it would be cool to have a "Motion Sensor" that you deploy like a Mobile Warp Dist. Its a skill based item, and basically you can set 1-5 up, and if a ship passes withing X range you get a notification.

Flame on!

Watching Local is hard.

Well, if CCP actually implemented intel gathering tools like this ingame, they could nix the whole local intel thing.

I wish they would do away with local completely, granted some "PvP'ers" would cry a river over it.

We'll need a counter then, I suggest Space Flour, that my ship can throw into the air so I can see the trip beams from your motion sensor, and then a latex catsuit for my ship to help it slowly and seductively weave through them.

To be fair, he'd have been banned for hacking the game client long ago.

My thoughts would be it only alerts the sensor was set off. Does not tell the type of ship. Range would be unlimited, but again its only saying SOMETHING passed by. There are many uses for this I think.

One REALLY boring thing is sitting on a gate, wormhole, etc just to see if ships are passing by. Again, lots of balance issues to work into this, but overall the concept of a motion sensor should be basic enough and easy enough to implement.

Range is unlimited?

So it's just Local, but doesn't tell you who's here.

Let me guess, you want an audio alert?

i was thinking more of a Yellow alert... right above where you get notifications...

it would flash... but it would also say yellow for those colour blind people like stephen colbert...

Remove cloaked ships from local, and then create a scanner module designed to detect various thermal, and engine exhaust emissions.

That's how they found the top secret stealthed CONCORD ship in Templar One.

I think this is what you are looking for.

Not really. I took the OP's suggestion as a mechanic for detecting cloaked ships.

I can't see any reason for motion detectors when you have local. My impression is that the OP was thinking that it would be a handy wat to passively detect someone trying to stealth up on them.

if you're going to ask for a new mechanic at least have it work the same way as it does in the lore that's been established by someone at CCP who is directly responsible for such things.

But that would make local a useless piece of spam-filled, smack-talk infested and scam cluttered UI space.

Actually I was not really thinking of this to prevent cloak's' from moving around - as they would be undetected. It was more or less If I like to roam certain areas or even wormholes - it would be nice to drop in a few motion detectors and move on, then get an alert that a system i have already been too (a specific area) has activity.

It would be useful to drop in a grav/mag site also in low/null, move out of system - and get a notification that someone is active in that area.

Just an idea!

Sensor bubble that sends a notification to it's owner whenever someone lands in it. eg, zero at top belt

Anti-Cloaking Pulse, mod that sends out a pulse and decloaks any cloaked ship within a 20km or I dunno whatever range.

passive targeter should fill this role already. It auto targets, and you would get that nice targeting sound as an alert.
