This usual tripe is informed by the usual assumption by Americans that taxes in Canada are outrageously high. They are not, especially compared to a lot of places in Europe or UK. Yes, I pay taxes. The difference compared to the GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD(TM) is really not that much, in exchange for a whole lot more, and that my taxes actually go to help finance running the country instead of arms-manufacturers.

And I've been unemployed a number of times over the last 4 years during which I paid no taxes--because I made no money, and that included the time of my little "detour" to hospital--and I was still 100% covered.

Change your mentality, Yanks--becoming ill or injured is not a "crime" that must be "punished."

My own personal plan for dealing with Obamacare: assure that we are under 50 employees and if not fire as many as it takes to get there (we're more like 30, but I need to see what all qualifies as an employee).

Then I'm going to have a sit down with our employees and basically tell them this: we can drop all your coverage and pay the penalties because it is cheaper than actually paying for the health plan and you can bring home more of your money and just pay your own meager penalty to go without coverage and buy it when you actually need it... or you can enjoy paying more for less under Obamacare.

No but a lot less of that money is going to the middlemen.

Healthcare costs per capita and percentage of the GDP.

1 United States 7,960 17.4
6 Canada 4,363 11.4

Cheaper per person and overall. Meanwhile the US manages to have more then our entire population uninsured while costing more.

I don't have to, actually. That's why nations exist. Not every nation needs to do the same as all others. Just as not every state in the United States needs to do the same. The court also said, as I understand it, that the government cannot penalize states that refuse to implement Obamacare by withholding Medicare funds. This may well mean that some states - which I believeTexas will be one of - will simply tell Obama and Justice Roberts what they can go do with themselves.

I've no intention of seeing the healthcare system in the US mimmick the UK or Canadian systems and my vote and political donations will continue to push against it. At least, once Romney wins the presidency, I can take heart in the fact that everyone gets an immediate waiver from this constitutional atrocity.

I like my private awesome health care. My longest wait time to see a specialist is about an hour Big smile

I've lived in places with socialized medicine and a trip to the doctor is an all day event. It's good to be in the upper 10% of the population Cool

Agreed! No way am I taking part in any health care exchange. I don't want some plebeian coverage designed for the unwashed masses.

Would you be so kind as to point out where Jada said you guys have high taxes?

I also appreciate how you grouped many people into one lump sum and assume we all have the same idea even though I have already stated that we should have either stayed at our current position or go straight to socialized healthcare.

Never happened to me, even in hospital.

Besides, the option for private care is freely available here.

Unfortunately for us both there isn't a 'Where would you like your tax dollars spent?' field at the end of the tax form.

There should be a rather awesome pic here

If it helps any, RomneyCare in Massachusetts is working. The people, the employers and the insurances companies seem to like it.

Personally, I'm looking forward to Obama publicly congratulating Romney on how well RomneyCare is working for the citizens of Massachusetts.

I'm sure there are a lot of things they do in Massachusetts that the people of Massachusetts like. Those people are welcome to live there.

it seems like the yanks that do not want free health care never got sick or aren't sick. when you get old you'll most likely need it, that's why a lot of americans flee to canada in their older days. (canada isn't the only country with free health care)

americans need to realize the world isn't a shopping mall and you don't need an abundance of wealth in order to buy everything sold... most people are fine with just a desk/computer/kitchen/bathroom and a bed. but americans seem to think life means owning 2 cars, 2 bathrooms, 3 consoles and the list goes on... then when your economy slows down you cry because you can't afford the latest trends.

it's much more relaxed in canada, especially europe, you don't see people going on shopping sprees like its mandatory requirement in order to fit in society...

what about people who are mentally ill, disabled? can't you be nice enough to pay more taxes to help your surroundings so they can have lives as well? just because you haven't been hospitalized yet doesn't mean you're special. an accident can happen randomly and that's when your life will change.

if life revolved around lucky individuals who's lives never has been cursed by health care needs, the population of earth would decrease, since it would all be like africa.

the problem with americans is that they are selfish and "unique". they emphasize on the word "I". "I PAY TAXES" no you *******, we pay taxes. WE.
