Last night I reset my graphics for performance and I was hitting 59-60 FPS flying around. It looks crap, but it works, I also downloaded Lion last night and I'm installing that plus the new patch later today.
Hopefully Lion works better.

Off topic but looking at your specs Lion would be the way to go. Especially with the 64bit porting they've made to more of their software. The upgrade was also the simplest I've ever had and was finished in a half hour.

I tried a slew of things last night to alleviate the problem so I could play, with no avail.

1. Single Client, Low Graphics: Setting all graphics settings optimized for Performance (mostly all to low or shut off completely) did absolutely nothing to fix the issue. Maybe it was raised a single point from average 7-9 FPS to 9-10 FPS but it wasn't noticeably different.

2. Single Client, Removed Overview/Bracket: Changing my overview settings and removing ALL BRACKETS raised my FPS up to 15-19 FPS, which is still above normal conditions for my brand new Mac.

3. Two/Multiple Clients: The problem is really shown when running multiple clients, it's exponentially worse over time. Making ANY changes to graphics or brackets did nothing. Slowly my FPS will sink to 1-2 FPS when I could run both clients perfectly well before.

It appears that I'm not alone, which is sort of comforting.

Edit: I forgot to mention. I typically test in windowed mode. Full screen changed nothing either.

Thanks for this, you are correct that there are other players experiencing significantly lower performance with Inferno 1.1 and the issue doesn't seem to be isolated to a single platform or hardware configuration so far. For an example I have the same graphics card and OS version as you in an older Mac Pro and am not having any luck reproducing these issues. We're trying our best to dig through the data and find some clues, your help is appreciated.

Mac OS X Server Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)

AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB
2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
500 GB 7200RPM

DELL ST2320L Display 24 Inch Secondary Display

All eve settings on low or off. All effects turned OFF.

In station, Jumping, HDR, more than 10 ships on screen, asteroid fields will cause mac to loose frames down to 20 FPS
from 30-40. Stuttering mac occur and freezing is not uncommon. as a example i was forced to quit the program 3 times while in a mission with 15 targets. Zooming in on missile/gun effects hitting my ship will almost always cause a crash if there is enough things hitting me.

Very very very very very disappointed with performance. This was the highest end macbook less than a year ago. My 2007 imac has the same problem as well as a 2008 unibody macbook and a early 2011 13 inch macbook pro.

Next to unplayably because im always afraid of loosing control of my ship at a critical point.

(EDIT)

Wile talking in chat i have crashed 3 times in the last 10 mins. All i was doing was autopioliting to jita and trying to talk to a guy.

(EDIT 2)

Crashed 4 more times since last edit. Autopioliting and market transactions. =(

Guys this is a Mac thread. The clients are different for the two operating systems and your bugs probably dont apply.
Go check out the windows support form.

After the patch I can't launch the game at all, once I click play from the launcher it closes and nothing happens. Tried resetting cache both in the launcher and in the application support folder, as well as restarting the mac. Nothing unusual appears in the console logs.

MacBook 2010 model
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53)
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB

I don't have time to test it on any of my other machines right now, but will test it on my alternate rigs with 10.6.8 and 10.8 a little later tonight.

Edit: Ran the Mac Repair tool, it claims to have fixed a few things and downloaded a 9.7 MB patch, but still doesn't launch.

It also will not launch from a second OS X user account. It will take 7 hours to download the full client again on my current network, this is a bummer.

Edit #2: I re-downloaded and re-installed the entire client again and still had the same issue with the app closing silently after hitting play in the launcher. I checked my console logs and found the message:
wine: '/users/my home account/Library/Application Support/Eve Online/wineserver-nameofmylocalnetwork.local' must not be accessible by other users

So I went into the ~/library/Application Support/Eve Online folder and deleted the 4 wineserver folders, and now Eve Online works fine again. I'm not sure why this folder would suddenly be messed up when installing the update, but I am back in business now.

8GB 1067MHz DDR3 RAM
OS X Lion 10.7.4
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512 MB
Windowed mode, 1920 x 1156

English language.
Windowed mode.
Running one client

I took some data on just what setting has the largest effect on fps. For this test I parked the ship a little above the Jita undock and adjusted the view to a typical "Jita cam" type scene.

I started with all settings low, and turned off all effects: 14 FPS.
Turning off brackets as well: 27 FPS.
Brackets back on, I found none of the "effects" lowered FPS.
Setting shader and texture to medium did not lower FPS.

HDR on lowered it to 9 FPS.
HDR off, post processing low, lowered it to 8 FPS.
HDR off, post processing high, lowered it to 7 FPS.

Selecting the preset "Quality" did not result in further reductions, still 7 FPS.

Turning off brackets would in general double the FPS.

Note that when Inferno 1.0 was first deployed I was getting 30-50 fps in the situation where now I get 14. (Medium shader, texture, some effects on, brackets on).

Edit: Had a crash. "Exception raised" type. Happened upon docking ( CQ on).

Won't start after the patch. Downloads and then says

"The update has been downloaded. The client will now close and the update process begin.

Press 'OK' to continue."

Press OK and then goes back to desktop, fails to start.

FPS Update

I noticed that when I hit the ESCkey to bring up my options, the FPS shoots up to 60+ before I have pressed anything.
Close options and it sinks back down again.

Don't know if news worthy or not, but thought I should pass it on.
Lion upgrade and latest patch has me at 59-60 FPS with my settings optimized for performance.

Since the patch, while in station at the market screen had the machine freeze up completely requiring me to press and hold the power button in order to reboot. Happened 5 different times today. I haven't dared leave the station, actually I'm not going to dare launch the client again until this is fixed, I'm getting concerned that I'll corrupt my drive next with all of these hard resets.

Aye, I got the same thing. Its odd, the scene is still being rendered, just darker. Why would the fps shoot up?

Is it possible that some of this could be due to having the original install of EVE on the machine when it was 10.5 and somehow the update is leaving the code that was required for 10.5 even though the system has been upgraded to Snow Leopard or Lion. I'm pretty sure I haven't done a clean install of EVE from scratch since i was on Leopard. Where as I would guess you (CCP Gangleri) may have a more pristine install you are working with. Not a bad thing on your part but it might be why you can't replicate the problem. Just a thought.

Oh and i'm having the same issues with lag and low frame rate.

This started after the patch. The day before i had worked with my settings and was geting a great frame rate and no lag or sound breakup. After the patch i had to turn everything to low just work at all.

System:

24" Imac
Video card GeForce GT 130 VRAM Type: GDDR3 512ram
3.06ghz Core 2 duo
4 gigs of ram.

Since the Inferno path I have horrible low FPS in any POS. The framerate drops from 130 FPS to 12 FPS !
If I hit ESC and bring up the settings window the framerate raises back to 130 FPS. Too bad that one can't minimize the
settings window and play with darkend version of eve ;)

I also have frequently "Exception Raised : Page Fault in 0x.... 0x ..... ) Then I have restart the Client and hope it will run a little
longer.

And yes I cleared the cache and I also restarted my Mac :P

Hi!
An improvement for general performance problems is now available on our test server Singularity. I am not sure how much this affects Mac users, but please check it out if you are plagued with low fps since Inferno 1.1 and give feedback in this thread.

An easy to use tool for Mac users to connect to Sisi (our nickname for Singularity) is available from here:
http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Singularity#Mac:_Sisi_Launcher_Tool

Note that this will create an entirely separate installation of EVE that should only be used for connecting to test servers, you can log in to Sisi with the same credentials as you have on TQ although the data there will be outdated by a few weeks.

Thx very much CCP Habakuk and CCP Gangieri,

I did all the steps to install the client for SISI. So I started the client in the hope to give you guys some feedback, but whats that ? No POS in the wormhole system we live in only a Rorqual and some containers showed up on d-scan. So CCP I am very sorry I can't give any feedback about the framerate issue without a POS nearby, oh and I can't even scan my way out cause I don't have a probe launcher on my Tengu ;)

Cheers

PS : Self destruction should work, but where do I find a POS ?
