What question gives you butterflies in your tummy when you get asked by a rookie.
I'll start: "What's the best ship?"

If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough.

Please Note: Any advice given comes with the caveat that nothing will be suitable for every situation.

So many to choose from. For example:

I like them ALL!

Big smile

On a more serious note, those questions show also how we can improve our game and where lack of information can easily lead to frustration and even quitting EVE before having seen any of the wonderful New Eden universe and its inhabitants.

I remember back when I first started playing one of the biggest difficulties I had in understanding things was... wtf were stargates and how did I get to them?

They're either hidden as some 16x16 icon somewhere on a screen full of black, or on the overview flooded out by rookie ships and a bunch of other junk.

In fact I got so frustrated I ended up locking up the first ship I saw and shooting at it, and got concorded for my trouble.

I don't know what it's like now, but if it was anything like what it was 2 years ago, travelling around really needs some help.

I also love when they ask "How do I move?"

I personally had trouble moving when I started and so I ended up floating away from the station for kilometers and kilometers before I tried to double mouse click and then I was like "ZOMFG IM FLYING!"

But I hear thats all in the tutorial.

Hmnn...

Just a quick thought and
possibly a humble reminder to the devs...

Eve is huge.
Eve is complicated.
Eve does NOT hold your hand.

because of this...

Eve can have moments of pure wonder...
Eve can have moments of true triumph...
Eve creates more reality due to it's harsh
and complex nature than any almost any other MMO.

Dear Devs,

While the entire industry is slowly realizing you guys got it right...
Don't turn the one game giving this entire industry a gut check...

into a Wow clone...

remember your noobs... like it spicy... keep it spicy!

struggle and hardship... creates diamond hard vets and raises
the level and competitiveness of gamers in the entire industry.

TL;DR don't cave to the carebear onslaught now CCP your winning hearts and minds.

"How do I grind my skills?"

"Is "x" SP/hour the best I can get?"

"Is remapping to this good for my 2 month plan?"

"I can't PvP till I own 500mil, how can I make ISK fast?"

EDIT:

And as of lately:

"I joined a corp that advertised me by mailing, they shot me down in my "all-my-ISK-are-in-this-ship" Hulk. Why didn't CONCORD safe me?"

Perhaps this thread would be more helpful to new citizens if everyone explained / answered the question that they're suggesting.

Old vets can sit around and point and laugh, but the new folks are thinking "hey... that was a valid question... what's wrong with it?"

Here's a question which every veteran that suffered through it will simply say, "Because it is." and vehemently defend that it should be that way, blindly and without reason. But every new person wonders, looks at and 90% of them will leave Eve for in the end.

"Why does it take so LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG?!?!?!" to train, travel, whatever.

I never get tired of people asking:

"What is ISD?" / "Who are you?"

But that's mainly because I find myself to be a very interesting topic of conversation Big smile

I really like all of the rookie questions posted above, but what I'd find much more interesting is the answer to the questions:

What IS the best ship?
Where DO you find the best PVP?
etc.

These questions are, like EVE Online, extremely complex, and therefore not that easy to reply to. (No, Drake isn't a valid answer)

The only stupid questions, are the ones you already know the answer to

If you're looking to help newbies understand stuff better, please include meta levels in the tutorials.

Every time I try to explain them to someone, I start off with "Oh boy, here we go". They're just so blatantly simple and obvious to any vet, but it's such a tough concept to explain to newbies.

The thing is that it's not a straight-forward "look for a 'meta' attribute and get the highest number you can", there's a lot of situations where meta4 is better than T2 (easier to fit, lower skill reqs), but some T2 is far and above better than meta4 (weapons in general), and some meta4 is strictly better than T2 (armor plates), and then there are those grey area situations like MWDs and ABs where you have to balance the bonuses (like speed and cap penalties) and drawbacks (such as cap use/cycle) of the different items.

Not to mention the fact that newbies will generally want meta 2-3 guns and such, due to costs. And I don't even try to explain faction/DED/Officer gear, I just end up leaving it at 'meta6+ is better, but it's outside of your price range for now".

A portion of the NPE that covers meta levels would be very nice. (Though I can't imagine that the devs enjoy trying to explain it any more than I do, lol).

I disagree with your friend.
I find the ability to communicate, and exchange thoughts and ideas to be our strongest powers as humans.

As CCP Phantom mentioned ealier, even the questions that seems the easiest to answer, helps us improve the game.
When we time, and time again, see questions in help channels and forums about tasks that should be easy to complete, we will report it to the NPE (New Player Experience) team, who will then work on improving the tutorials, the interface, etc., to make it more user friendly.

On another note, I've decided what my favorite rookie question is:
"Can I ask a question?"
