Odd alt+tabbing behaviour

Sometimes I fly AFK with my Freighter (it's not worth ganking, by the way!), and so I alt+tab out of EVE and do something out in windows while my snail crawls along the spacelanes.

But surprisingly often, my ship's computer starts talking about requesting docking permission at the exact moment in which I alt+tab tack into EVE. And then I see my ship hanging out in space, <750 meters from station, and soon after it docks, and the hangar/cargo view loads up.

It's as if my ship doesn't dock while I'm alt+tabbed out of the EVE client. It's as if it hangs in space, waiting. 3-4 hours ago, I set my Freighter to autopilot 2-3 jumps, and then I came back an hour later, and when I alt+tabbed back into the client, my ship requested docking permission.

What is going on? This seems like new behaviour to me. I am quite sure that the game didn't behave so half a year ago. Back then, the game events proceeded as one would expect, whether the client was at the forefront of had been alt+tabbed out of.

What has changed? Is there a potential problem here? I do fly safe, never carrying a valuable cargo (I'm serious; I am not worth ganking), but it still bothers me that my ship's autopilot does not function like it used to, and like I expect it to, and that I potentially can hang out there in space, 500 meters from a station, for hours, and only dock when I actually physically alt+tab back into the client.

Use the windowed mode bro. Much easier.

But what is going on in the game world? Is this just some effect I'm seeing, while my ship actually docks as soon as it should, and there's just some kind of weird interface lag?

I think you misunderstood my question!

Strange behavior. Let's get Stensson to look into it. I hear he's good at keeping things under control.

its sound related

when you alt-tab sounds lose sync

alt tab out while warping and the warp sound will go on and on until you tab back in and see you're sitting at a gate and not moving at all.

I've seen the same OP. I alt-tab to my main and alt and if I set my main to dock, then alt-tab to the alt to drive him around some, my main wont actually jump or dock until I alt-tab back.

I haven't tried windowed mode to see if it's any different.

I have notice some changes with the way EVE acts when EVE is minimized. Prior to inferno I was able to auto pilot my characters when minimized and they would dock. Since inferno this does not work any longer, if your client is minimized your ship will sit outside station until the moment the session is active.

Sounds like CCP wants more people to loose ship due to stupid game mechanics. This should go a long way in retaining multi account players or not!

My ship does actually travel, some of the time when I'm alt+tabbed out of the game.

I just find it disturbingly coincidental, how often I hear the docking request voice at the exact moment that I alt+tab back into the game client.

There is something screwy with sounds again. I know when I look at the Steam Store and uncheck the mute on the demo videos that the sound in Eve will be broken until I restart the client.
