To those in possession of the "rumored" Inferno drug:

You are all idiots.
As far as I have been informed, the major drawback of the Inferno drug is that the human brain is incapable of interfacing with its body at the speeds that Inferno is capable of making it run, leading to a persistent vegetative state.

Yet in order to take advantage of your highly limited amount of Inferno, you have used it on reputable scientists with major potential, ones that merely needed a little... push. And you have expended their lives, all their potential ideas, by doing so.

You have been wasting lives for no good purpose! Have none of you access to capsuleers willing to try this drug of yours? Have you even considered what a capsuleer might be able to communicate to you? We already have built-in mental links that process data faster than any unaugmented human! We have the capability to save our minds and reload them from a state where the drug has not yet broken them!

I condemn anyone who has used this new advance on a non-capsuleer, and I am appalled that there might be no capsuleers willing to attempt the use of Inferno!

I am not a scientist. But I would volunteer.

It would be better still if we could find a capsuleer scientist to take on this mantle, however. Someone from a military research corporation would be best, but wormhole salvagers might also do well, having worked with Sleeper technology.

Of course, it would be absolutely remiss if we did not have someone skilled in biochemistry examine a sample of Inferno while under its effects. Even if we cannot duplicate it completely, if we can produce even a weaker version then we can work our way up.

Still, all of this is talk. So I'll put my money where my mouth is.
I am willing to pledge 50 million ISK to the first company or individual to test Inferno on the capsuleer brain, and an additional 25 million ISK to the first capsuleer to undergo such treatment. (Or their beneficiaries, in the admittedly possible case of permanent coma.)

I urge the capsuleer community to add to this bounty. I am not wealthy by capsuleer standards; even this much is three-quarters of my present liquid assets. It is hardly enough to make a major company sit up and take notice, much less acknowledge the existence of a powerful new drug. But if I can mobilize the capsuleer community by my example, I will consider it ISK well spent.

First, I'll say that I appreciate the opportunity to discuss something here on the IGS besides petty factionalism or in-jokes between some subset of pilots.

A few issues arise with Inferno, however. As you note, to my knowledge this is still just an unconfirmed rumor. While I've heard it independently from at least two reliable sources, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. But the "wasting" of lives doesn't matter that much in relation to what we can gain in terms of raw knowledge, and if men and women choose freely to give their lives like this for all mankind, this seems better than destructive conflict, violence, and war.

You have one particularly interesting idea, though: using a capsuleer who already has significant expertise in the area and perhaps even has access in advance to whatever data might exist on Inferno so that the time under the drug's influence before it reaches its final state is used to maximum advantage. This is somewhat outside my area of expertise, so I can't speak to whether this would work effectively via soft-cloning or whether the synthesized portions of our clones even work properly with the highly specific interactions that such a drug would certainly require.

I'll discuss this matter with my associate at the CEMPS and see if we might be willing to sponsor or assist somehow.

You are correct that I have perhaps gotten away with myself with my hypothesizing. But the two main threads of rumor I've heard are these:
1: Inferno, if it exists, is a new drug that enhances cognitive function somehow, in such a way that it can catalyze major breakthroughs.
2: The use of Inferno is highly dangerous, leading to death in a significant percentage of cases.

If Inferno exists and even this much is true about it, then I feel justified in at least the first half of my rant. The capsuleer mind and body are built to be reloaded from scratch; if there is a dangerous job to be taken, then it follows that capsuleers should fill it first.

The second suggestion I had- that someone should examine Inferno while under its effects, to see if they can describe how it works- is only true if Inferno is nonreproducible Sleeper technology, as some of the rumors seem to agree. I feel that this is more than likely the case.

After all, if some corporation is producing this drug- perhaps the Serpentis making a super-booster - then I would not have expected it to have spread as quickly as it would have had to in order to make an impact in multiple fields. (If, that is, the recent wave of breakthroughs is entirely due to the influence of Inferno, which the jury is still out on.) Rather, it would have been kept in-house.

As for the question of "would the drug work on capsuleers"... that's actually a decent question. After all, our jacks and all that's gone into their mounting are hardly standard for the human brain. Side-effects would be expected, possibly even including full clone line brain death should a Inferno-tainted brain be uploaded to the next clone by accident. It wouldn't be a cakewalk, even for us "immortals."

Depending on how the drug actually works, its possible that the end-stage effect could qualify as neurodegeneration. Theres a protective agent for that, C3-FTM. If it were to work, you might be able to prevent volunteers from being tossed into a permanent coma.

Just some thoughts of mine based on what I've heard and been told about this drug.

Ah, the notorious Istvann Shogaatsu. I hadn't expected to attract such a notable personage as a volunteer.
Has the Guiding Hand, well-known for its intelligence gathering among other things, been able to locate any of this compound that it will admit?
After all, this initiative can hardly be done without a source of the drug itself.

Hmm. It occurs to me that there should be a bounty on that as well- the first effective dose of Inferno delivered to independent capsuleer hands. Perhaps when I have more liquid funds on hand.

All these questions, yet none ask the pertinent ones.

At least you can wake from the nightmare.

Sleep well.

I run a small pharmaceutical corporation, and this topic caught my eye. I think there's far too much speculation going on here. If you'd like to get your hands on some Inferno, I have some wonderful beachfront property on Mikramurka to sell you!

We've all heard rumors about this Inferno "drug," but what is it really? From what I can tell, it's been referred to as a "concoction," along with claims that it's of Sleeper origin. This assumes that we can even trust 'The Scope,' which in my opinion puts honest profits before honest reporting.

How do we know that it's a drug in the traditional sense-- a synthetic or biologic chemical compound? It could just as well be a parasitic organism. Maybe it's software-- a digital drug. Such things exist, although they are not widely sold, and hold little use for capsuleers.

Even then, whoever has their hands on this stuff isn't letting go of it, not for all the kresh on Caldari Prime. The risk that another party could synthesize it is too great, especially if that other party is a capsuleer. There are probably plenty of enterprising folk out there selling "Inferno" in smoky VIP booths or luxury hotel suites, but I can think of more than a few compounds that'd make a user feel "accelerated" before turning them into a vegetable. However, as Mme. Vitalia pointed out, products that kill first time users aren't good for business.

That's not to say that this stuff doesn't exist, it probably does. But, if I were you, I'd quit asking about it. We capsuleers are a powerful bunch, but there are still plenty of things that go bump in the night.

Inferno is lightweight stuff compared to that hooch we used to make back on Intaki Prime using fermented hydraulic fluid. I had straight hair once.

If the rumors regarding the existence of such drug is true, I would like to make a serious offer for the sale of Inferno drugs.
