This happens.

Report/forward to CCP and ignore the email.

And for the love of Hilmar, DO NOT click on any links in the email.

Another thread

Seems like this is becoming a problem.....

Maybe CCP can put out a warning on the main news page about this?????

I received one of these into my eve email last night. My question is where do they find our email address associated with Eve in the first place? is this a leak in CCP security? Question

It would seem the bot banning is forcing the farmers to use other avenues,

The email bots send to ***@***.*** addresses randomly. I get hundreds for WOW on an email that never went near WoW. Gold farmers are hitting a rough patch it seems.

First of all make sure you enable full headers for the email, so that the mail server information is shown. Then forward the email to security@ccpgames.com That is the email to the team that fights for account security and can work on shutting down the phishing sites, if possible.

Have you seen how many third party scripts are on sites like Battleclinic? Even the main Eve website has a script from ru4.com - that lets ru4.com know that your IP plays eve, and they basically make a business out of selling customer information. The same scripts (probably not the same domain, they have a web of "associates") might also be on some other site where you use an email.

They match the IP address, or use tracking cookies, and they associate your email with the fact that you use Eve. Then they sell that information to everyone.

I'm still amazed that CCP doesn't yet offer some sort of Digipass keyfob system like Blizzard and Bioware are using.

They sort of do as we were given one in our attendee pack at fanfest earlier this year to trial. Haven't heard anything since about them so my 2 are sitting in a draw.... don't ask....

Well, if they are just sennding mass mails to ****@****.** there is not alot you can do against it, but only 1 of my mails is targeted. So who is the one that leaked my email-adress..

Heck they even start to send double mails now of the same content of getting back to eve..... with half crippled content Roll

And ofcourse i know account scamming has been around for ages already.

Well if you like, I can forward you the spam I receive. And tbh I (DOTLAN) have never forwarded or sold any user detais and chribba wouldn't do it either. Just keep in mind there lots of public and private forums that rise and fall. And those are also a good place to harvest mail adresses.

In the end you'll never know where your mail got leaked if you don't use a separate mail for every site and service.

Well there's not much we can do about it apart from adjusting and train our spam filters :-/

Do you allow hot-linking to a commonly used site that may not be reputable?

All it takes is a hot-linked image or a remote script and the third part knows that IP is an eve player, they can then search the email databases they have for occurrences of that IP and target their ads.

I would never dream of giving away any emails associated with EVE-Files, it's purely for the ability to reset your password and does not get used in any other form (one doesn't even have to enter an email unless they want to).

I get these for just about every major MMO. The EvE phishing emails do seem to be coming in more frequently as of late.

My mom started getting WoW phishing emails and she's not a gamer at all. She asked who this Blizzard person is.

Well, i am not accusing anybody here, please dont get me wrong in that. I know there are alot of ways to get email adresses. I just was amazed about it. And ofcourse they will get it one way or another, heck I even have had mail about scamming on a 2day old mail adress that i never even used for anything.

I only started this topic because after ~3 years ive gotten the first eve account steal mailscam., and it kinda.. amazed me.

Account phishing through emails is a terrible plague. We have a whole thread dedicated to helping people be aware of it them. Always remember to check URLS before clicking links!

…and funnily enough, the sheer annoyance of the “link warning” popup/redirection page has made me less likely to check URLs since it instantly triggers my GTFO-of-my-way-you-annoying-piece-of-"#(&/€# reflex.

Fortunately, the same annoyance made me create a script that nukes both the popup and page to give me direct access to the link, and which lets me check the link through the normal means.

Of course, the bugs in the forum's bbcode/URL parser makes it increasingly common for people to use URL shortening services that obfuscate the target page, which means that all those precautions — both the ones built into the forums and the work-arounds for those bugs features — are all for naught.

Or, put another way: will we ever see an option to disable the link warnings, and when will we see a fix to the bbcode parsing bugs?
