Constantly freezing up

Hoooookey. This one is definitely going into a bug report, but I wanted to see if anyone else had run across it: While in warp, open your fitting window. On my machine, this has two possible outcomes: 1) hard freeze, requiring a reboot; 2) fitting window appears, but with noise and strangely distorted colors.

This is recently introduced behavior. I'm not in the habit of opening my fitting window in warp, so I don't know exactly which patch started it, but I can reproduce it every time. I'll fiddle with graphics settings the next time I'm on. Maybe it's because I tried turning on antialiasing recently.

Could not reproduce. Nothing odd happened. I got medium settings.

Edit: 1.09 still has the freeze bug.

Solved it 100% for me.

I was running out of memory.

Running a 2.66 GHz imac. 2008.

2 gigs ram

I downloaded (app store, free) a utility called FREE MEMORY

It basically "frees memory" but shows, in the bar at the top of the screen, the amount of free memory you have.

Running JUST eve, I had BARELY enough to run it.

Anyhow. $120 later, I now have 6 Gigs of Ram. With eve and a browser running, I have just under 2 gigs free.

So, basically, 4 gigs would be the minimum.

2 days. no crashes. And I was the crash-king.

Still getting that lovely music-skipping freeze bug, but have been trying memory purges since it appears to be a memory leak.

To do a purge, open your Terminal and just type "purge". Wait for it to finish, then boot EVE. I'll typically do it if my computer's been active for a while before starting EVE, or right after EVE freezes. Have yet to see EVE freeze again after a purge.

Bleh,Straight having safari open and using it is just asking for 1 of my clients to freeze. Sometimes one freezes after the other.
Opening Safari then using it and quitting it seems, seems to prevent EVE from freezing, at of course the worst possible moments.

Combined that with having to fight a beta inventory, opening a new can that replaces an already open can, and I go from tearing my hair out to wanting to take on a adult polar bear with my bare hands.

I've seen worse in my near 5 years here but gobsmackdiddlydue, is this annoying. X

Oh yeah question, I open 2 EVE instances from 1 launcher, is that ok or do I need 2 launchers?

Sorta-kinda works, but not really. If you have two clients writing to the same prefs files and the same cache, they both start to get confused after a while. And you don't want to have to rebuild your overview like I did--twice.

The clone maker's working now. It's just a little hassle and then multiple clients work a lot more smoothly.

Hint: If you want to run multiple clients on the same machine, in your ESC menu optimize graphics for memory, and then raise the settings to taste. Your clients will be much more stable for far longer this way.

There were some fairly major changes under the hood with today's patch, can some of you comment on how you are affected by freezes currently (after 06/25/2012) ?

Please mention which version of OSX you're using in your replies and note anything before 10.6.7 is not supported.

post 2012.06.25 patch

The game is very chuggy. The best frame rate I experience when static is about 3fps. When I move the view around the rate drops and will freeze up for upto 30 seconds. I haven't been in a lag fight since 2010, but it reminds me of that.

So far my solution has been to quit.

btw: I habitually run everything at the lowest graphics setting possible. So let me log back on and try everything out.

round 2:

I logged on an alt in Amarr and tried a few permutations on the graphics settings in fullscreen mode.

With the antialiasing setting to high the scene never drew. I undocked and the scene only drew icons. I warped to a safe and the scene still did not draw - world of black, just like space. The game GUI was very laggy. With antialiasing disabled, the scene drew and the game GUI smoothed out.

With all the other settings set to high the frame rate seemed between 8 and 12 fps at my safe spot.

With the all settings at low or disabled the frame rate seemed normal at my safe spot. game GUI responded normally.

With low settings, once I warped back to the Amarr station with 20 some odd ships about, the frame rate crapped out and dropped to about 1 to 3 fps and the GUI was lagged out.

I'm using 10.6.8

Haven't run into any freezes yet; I do have minor (but noticeable) framerate loss.

I'm still getting freezing after today's patch 2012/06/27 - two complete freezes of my machine that required holding the power button to reboot. An odd thing also happened one time, I logged in and the frame rate in station was like a slideshow, I quit the game, logged back in and the frame rate was again normal, but later after about 10 minutes froze the machine requiring a hard reset.

I was running in windowed mode at the market screen.

MacBook Pro 2010 model 13 inch.
Software Mac OS X 10.6.8
Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 4 GB
Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB

Also should add, this problem is a recent one that started after the last few patches

In the last 24 hours I have gotten 3 freezes, one requiring a hard re-boot. This is quite unusual for me, I normally get less than one a week.

It may be related to BOINC (Berkley Open Infrastructure for network computing) trying to access the internet. Ill try making sure its off during Eve play, see if that helps.

My client will freeze -- requiring a force-quit -- after an hour or two. It doesn't matter what I'm doing, in-space or in-station. I have not had it freeze when I was actually doing stuff, only when I was AFK in station or autopiloting.

Occasionally after a freeze, the client will not restart until I reboot the entire machine.

I'm running 10.6.8 on last year's Macbook Pro.

This game has become unplayable on the mac since inferno. I've died too consistently to game freezes and disconnects. Sometimes it's during a session change and some times it just likes to inconveniently freeze.

So I had a freeze last night. The one where your ship stays in space. What was odd though was the freeze happened as I was in warp so my ship continued to the warp in point but when I landed I had dropped fleet. Luckily I was on TS3 so as I heard the calls of "neutral Jag landing" and was able to tell them not to shoot me on sight. It didn't emergency warp until I force quit the client.

So yea, my ship stayed in space, continued warp but dropped fleet.
