Ok I know this is not really going to happen but let's just say for the sake of argument that I'll do this. If I was to create a new space traiding combat game like eve. (just like eve have copied the single player game elite) how would you like to have it? What features would you want? What your like to happen to completly remake eve into a new on line mmorpg game.

Step 1: forget about everything EVE is about
Step 2: make a list of everything EVE doesn't does and will never do
Step 3: imagine a space-based SF MMORPG around points 1 & 2
Step 4: ????
Step 5: Profitz!

Roses are red / Violets are blue / I am an Alpha / And so it's you

Hmm interesting. Ok make high sec safe.  Low sec for pvp. Make mining and Indy roles ( the backbone of the game roles) much more fun and secure. Like give the miners some half descant ships.  Make the wardec system  consentual between both party's for highsec (the defender has a right to decline or appeal). Introduce a duel or challenge system so you can go head to head with other players in high sec by challenging them. Like well almost every other mmorpg game ever has. And make the system a bit ease to work with all round.

Cool. Interesting ok any other ideas going?

Oh hey, a generic MMO only in space. You could probably find a major sci fi franchise and use it for a theme! Star Trek! No Star Wars!

Half of those descriptions basically are saying you want to remove challenge from the game.

Make high sec safe

The only way this would ever be possible is if guns are disabled or players can not target other players. Of course either option would break other factors of high sec such as mission running and logistics. Not to mention how exploitable this is. First off, being eve, we only have certain points where we can access a section of space. These are called gates. So if one wants to pvp they must now go through said gates because high sec is safe. Furthermore if a person wants instant safety all they would have to do is go front low to high sec and they can no longer be touched. Guess what area will be bottlenecked.

Make mining and Indy roles much more fun and secure

How would you do this? This is an honest question. How do you make what is mostly automated profession more exciting? Does the indy have to push a a number of buttons in sequence or else he loses ten minutes of crafting time? Does the miner have to manually guide a shaky laser into randomly generated circles that pop up around asteroids to receive their yield?
As for safe, with the exception of nullifying challenge with your make high sec safe concept, safe is only what you make of it. Will you go mine in a mission deadspace pocket with tanked ships and an escort or are you in belt 3 of major system afk in a paper thin vessel because scrubs is on tv currently.

Make the wardec system consentual between both party's for highsec (the defender has a right to decline or appeal)

This is a null point as you have already made high sec safe and low sec for pvp. You may as well just remove the wardec feature completely and just let people in null say that they are at war with each other.

Like give the miners some half descant ships

For what? Protection against gankers? You just nullified that again with the make high sec safe.

Introduce a duel or challenge system so you can go head to head with other players in high sec by challenging them

We have that currently, it's called dropping a can.

As it stands I would play your game for about a month, maybe 2, before becoming utterly bored with it and moving on to something else.

I'd make the map look like this.

No matter what, the current system is so flawed is staggers belief that they actually went live with it, instead of the system illustrated in that link.

Although, I will say that my perspective is heavilly hindsighted.
