DED Sites

Tried exploration for the first time yesterday and found a 4/10 DED site. What ship do people use to do these sites in? I am a Caldari missile build fyi. I started off with a Caracal, but after almost losing that brought in a drake. While I had no issues tanking it, my dps on the frigates seemed pretty terrible. I am used to just instant popping frigates with a volley in level 3/4 missions, but was doing hardly anything to these ships.

I eventually brought in my alt with a frigate (navy hookbill) to help, but even that wasn't enough dps to take down the faction guy at the end. I was up against Gist ships and tried both kinetic and explosive missiles to no avail. Would getting better drone skills and t2 scout drones help clear these out faster? I was double webbing the frigates with my alt, which didn't seem to help very much. Would target painting them for my drake be better, or are the resistances of the ships in these complexes really that high?

You can try to fit a target painter/rigor rigs on your drake. Those help with the dps vs frigs. A drake doesn't do alot of dps by itself though. So you could be better off training for a tengu. It's the ideal exploration ship.

Hisec sites tend to have more frigates than cruisers so having more anti-frigate weaponry will help a lot.
For missile boats get appropriate rigs ( flares or rigors ) and remember to take precision missiles ( T2 ).
Light drones are of course very helpful here. Getting T2 drones is a priority.

Bosses in Angel/Serpentis/Sansha DED4's need quite a lot of dps ( for lower end ships ) to take them down, especially that Seprentis battleship.
In Guristas/Blood sites you need to kill a structure so it is easier.

Target painter will help but your problem seems to be low damage due to low skills. Drake isn't exactly strong ( dps wise ) unless you have those missile skills trained properly.

Yes, better drone skills and t2 scout drones will help clear out the frigs faster, just need to watch and recall them when they start taking damage, then deploy them again after aggro has shifted back to your ship.

From what I have seen, you need around 350 DPS to be able to take out the Overseer in the last room of the 4/10 and you also need a half decent tank if you are going straight for the kill, slightly less if you want to clear the room a bit first. But if you try to clear the room first you risk having your site crashed and someone steal the Overseer kill.

Most 4/10 sites are done by people in T3 ships.

implants, rigor rigs and Hobgoblin IIs will help with damage but if you want to get serious with exploration, tengu, ishtar or loki are the way to go.

I should buy an Ishtar.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think it may have been a possible bug with ship bonuses not being applied. I had just bought and fitted the drake after the caracal wasn't able to handle it.

I tried to do another 4/10 the other day and was destroying the npc ships with little issue. I did add a target painter to my alt and that was helping to kill them even faster. I just finished training for t2 drones and starting cruiser 5 for a tengu. Thanks again for the advice.

Once you go Tengu, you never go back. That ship is addictive. I have a hard time convincing myself to undock in anything but.

Hello, I just started playing a few days ago and was wondering which ship I should set as a goal for exploration. I am trying to stay "true to my roots" and only fly Gallente ships. Also, I know that hacking, salvaging, and such are important skills; Should I focus on one of these first, or keep them at a similar level? I was thinking of saving up for an ishkur, but it would take me a while to get into it. Any thoughts?

For Gallante I use the Myrm. Never had any problems with 4/10s with a double repper mrym.

Train for Ishtar, that's ultimate Gallente exploration ship. Also do consider Gila, it's Gallente+Caldari and very similar to Ishtar (except it's much less skill-intensive, and it's only shield-tanked and thus is somewhat inferior).

I have hacking/salvaging 3, no problems so far. Focus on Ishtar and good drone, armor tanking and navigation skills (you'll need those to speed-tank higher level plexes).
