So I recently got a cruiser and thought "AWESOME LET'S DO LVL 2 MISSIONS!". Unfortunately these missions seems to have such a huge amount of frigs in them, it'd make even TEST and Goons jealous. Wouldn't be running them in destroyers be better? Since I can't actually hit them with my cruiser? (Or are the guns I'm using too big, and I should switch to the dual version of the smaller guns?)

On a side note: Most effective combat distance vs Guristas, upclose, far, or irrelevant?

If you're missioning against Guristas, I'm going to assume you're flying Caldari boats. This being the case, you will be better off training missiles for missioning.

Rapid Launch Light Missile Caracal will eat frigates for breakfast.

Frigate size weapons on Cruisers are good for level 2 missions. This allows you to fit a comfortable tank and/or DPS increasing modules, too.
Destroyers have weak tank and vs. missile spamming Guristas or Mercs you may get in big troubles as a new player.

caracal with rapid light missile launchers should destroy level 2 missions.

dessys can do level 2s, but they feel a bit fragile. personally I love turrets in missions. one of my fav level 2 ships was an omen with beam turrets. afterburner to manage transversial and it wtfbbqs frigs. although there were a few missions that were a bit rough, a bunch of missile frigs that I couldn't quite kite.
