Hidden Items / Player Driven Evolution / Game Advances

This is more a question for a Dev to answer, but I welcome any speculators, of course.

Not long after I began playing, there was a tiny scrap of information buried in a dev blog regarding hidden items that would advance the "storyline of EvE" when found and triggered by pod pilots.

A considerable while later, after wormholes were introduced, that little glimmer of what could be phenomenally great things was dangled out like a carrot again, only with just a bit more teasing.....a dev claimed that yes, certain "trigger items" did in fact exist, and furthermore, had actually been stumbled upon *BUT NOT ACTIVATED* by poor unsuspecting pilots.

When clarification was screamed for regarding the "BUT NOT ACTIVATED" part of the statement, opinions and theories ran wild and rampant suggesting various methods of interactive activity by the pilots to "activate" the trigger(s), but no further dev commentary was to be forthcoming on the matter and it drifted back into obscurity once again, not even identifying the triggers directly, just that some had been found but not activated.

The word "some" also peaked enormous interest.........how many were there? What would their function be? How could they be discerned from "the background noise"?

All questions met with the usual devious Dev silence, which translated means" sort it out yourselves!"

In my opinion, substantial time has passed and once again I will raise the question.

Do such items still exist?

Was "triggering" one of these items, whether knowingly or unknowingly, responsible for what has become "Incursion"? If so, would giving any detail at all to help/encourage the searchers in any way jeopardize the remaining items?

It would be so utterly cool if it were a truth that out there, in the void, spawning ever-so-rarely, such items still existed and were worth the pursuit.

Yes yes yes, I understand, EvE is PRIMARILY a PvP game, and there is no reason for that to change, but such an idea as player driven evolution by trigger events is such an awesome idea, and has in the past been confirmed, gives an almost compelling reason to continue the subs and the endless searching..........

I'm not asking for any sort of specific that would "give anything away", as it were. Just a simple yes or no from a Dev as to whether or not the idea is still in play.

Of course, if a Dev wishes to expand on the answer, that would be all the more...........

Well what about this post, a rift in the space time of eve. Not sure if its relevant or not.

There's your problem, right there.

CCP stopped caring about advancing the "storyline of EvE" some time ago.

post the dev blog link. They're all still archived.

I don't think what you're talking about has ever actually happened. Possibly someone's pipe dream.

Though, I agree, it would be cool. Blink

I cannot recall seeing physical "triggers" anywhere mentioned but by the end CCP Dropbear was at least as frustrated that the players never understood his hints as the players were that he kept teasing at something they didn't manage to figure out over two and a half years.

Part of me wants to think that the Incursion storyline was an attempt to make up for the players' failure and introduce whatever they didn't manage to figure out via more traditional storytelling.

But, alas, Dropbear took an arrow to the knee (got laid off by CCP) and we'll never know...

Plot items in wormholes? Wasn't there a news item about wormhole dweller exploding a pilot-less cov-ops and finding out from killmail that it contained NPC and research data from first WH expeditions by Creodrone?

I believe what you're referring to is sleeper/ancients WH items tied directly or indirectly to Arek'jalaan project. WH pilots find certain items in WH space and then, theoretically, those items are part of a sort of quest or event trigger tied to the history of EVE and the rediscovery of the secrets of the sleepers... and possibly Sansha as well. There was dev writing somewhere who mentions two things relevant to your OP, once he mentions that such items exist and that some have not yet been found. In another, he mentions that at least one item has been found and destroyed. I think if you click over to evelopedia and follow links off the Arek'jalaan project, you will get closer to what you seek. Be warned, the players active in this area are a closed lip bunch and are unlikely to be directly helpful at the outset.

edit: ^^ post above mentions the destroyed one

YES YES!

This is the information to which I referred.

Glad to see that it was not just too much THC.

Now, the question remains............

Is this still an active avenue of pursuit, or has CCP abandoned it in order to focus on other things..........

I ask for no secrets, only whether it is still viable gameplay or has it been dust binned.........

please please please, oh dear gods of CCP, tell me this is real. give me a reason to care again!

When CCP dropped Dropbear, the project was effectively binned.
