Eve and dynamic IP addresses?

Hi everyone, before I start I just want to say I'm really not extremely computer savvy here, so while I appreciate any help anyone can give me, please try to use small words P

So due to my geographical location, the only ISP available to me is Verizon's 3G hotspot thingy, it works well enough speed-wise for any gaming or voice chat that I want it to do, however, while playing my new Eve game I tend to get the random "socket closed" errors that the other thread is talking about.

The reason I believe I'm experiencing a different issue than everyone is because through my research I'm lead to believe that a cellular tower will sometimes need to basically "rearrange" its connections depending on loading which can basically reassign me a new IP address. This would make a lot of sense because when I played Rift I would also get random d/c's. But since I could log right back in and still be grouped up and everything, it never got too frustrating.

Well in Eve it kicks you out of fleet, out of any private chats you're in, out of the "room" you're in in a complex and is generally a nuisance. So I've been trying to find a way to get around this problem, and this brings me to my question, can I get around this problem?

I heard that a proxy server is like connecting to the internet through another computer that has a static IP address, which seems like it would work on paper, but would it still be affected by my randomly changing IP address?

Any help or information or links to newbie-friendly resources would be greatly appreciated! Smile

Ok so if it is the actual cell tower kicking you out then no a proxy wont do anything. By the sounds of what you are saying you are actually losing the connection to the internet as a whole. EVE constantly sends traffic back and forth so even a couple of seconds of connection interuption would cause it to disconnect. If you connect through a proxy you would lose the connection to the proxy itself during these connection drops and still get knocked off of EVE. If you are using one of those USB sticks I would check that out first before you get tangled up in a proxy. I personally have had no luck with them when it comes to MMOs but you could be different.
