Quick suggestion here.

Would it be possible to have Internal Affairs do a quick stock-take of the volunteer moderators every so often (say 3 months or so) and produce report for the community listing numbers and proportions of volunteers coming from the various large alliances in the game?

That way we could keep tracking potential bias problems if any one alliance ended up controlling a disparately large proportion of the volunteerr positions.

Is kind of thing possible?

Hi Jade,

You should probably know me as one of the old CRC moderators. Let me tell you that we are watched by IA constantly, also we have the Community Team overseeing all our edits, deletions and locks.

I am in charge of the CCL volunteers and i can tell you that i do not allow bias. My moderators are not allowed to moderate anything that involve their player, corporation or alliance.

I will and i can not support your idea of proportion reports, this only leads to accusations and a lot of rumors.
However if you feel someone is abusing his/her status as volunteer, go ahead and mail internalaffairs@ccpgames.com.

Heya Eshtir, well I'm happy to hear the point you make on mods not being able to moderate anything involving their own player, corp alliance. That does resolve a big concern obviously.

I guess we'll agree to differ on the proportion reports thing - I can see your point that it might well create rumours (if it turned out one particular alliance was was dominating the mod numbers for example) but on the other hand not knowing the proportion can also lead to the suspicion of bias in the mind of people using the service.

Still, I guess we see how it all goes.

All the best.

Agreed Jade,

everyone has different opinion and views on certain things. Anyway, i dropped CCP Navigator a mail and asked him to give you (and the rest of EVE) a response about this.

I do not feel there is a need to do this at present but it is certainly something we can look at if it is warranted.

Let me explain a little why we would take this approach.

People who volunteer generally do so because of their passion for the community and for a desire to help. While this team is in its infancy we are conducting regular reviews of the moderation logs to ensure that volunteers are performing their role in a fair and balanced way. We would not feel comfortable putting them under a microscope when there is currently no allegation of wrong-doing.

What I can tell you is that our volunteer team are made up of alliance members, NPC corp members, mission runners, miners, PvP'ers and every aspect of game play.

In addition, the contributions from volunteers can often result in employment with CCP such is their contribution. As a matter of fact, many on the current community team have originated from this very program.

I hope this answers your query and I will assure you that we will continue to help our volunteers grow, develop and learn from any mistakes.

Presently if someone doesn't like someone else's posting or if they are getting insulted they can simply block the posts. The offender can post Bill is an idiot, but Bill stops responding. The offender gets bored. Works fine.

Of course there is no way this new system will get exploited by some group interest planting it's operatives on your team. Noone in EVE knows how to do such a thing. Or exploited by some individual on your team with a fixed point of view that they want to prevail. You are asking for a whole lot of trouble CCP. Censoring the forums is the wrong way to go.

I saw earlier that someone said that ISDs can't ISD and play at the same time. Does that just mean that they literally can't be playing while on the clock? Cause that would make sense.

And there I was, thinking that the CSM was doing this as part of their job description.
CSM was and should be the sounding board from playerbase to CCP.
Not some anonymous grunts with player unknown affiliations.

Who are you guys and girls in CCL to determine if a thread or post by a player is worthy to be pointed out?

I don't see the point, use or need for some anonymous players to be our spokesperson in regards to what is of interest and what isn't.

Also not in the least bit surprised that CCP has forgotten the lessons of the Aurora program. Never learned from them in the first place is likely more accurate given their business culture.

You asked me once, what was in Room 101. I told you that you knew the answer already. Everyone knows it. The thing that is in Room 101 is the worst thing in the world.

Luckily ISDs only moderate the forums. If you ask me these forums need some tighter moderation than they've had in the past, and need some adjustments in how the moderation is handled.

For the population that we've got we probably have the most active forums. Just imagine this level of activity with the population of a successful theme park MMO. CCP has to have volunteers, they don't make enough money to pay an entire staff of moderators. Not with the number of subscribers that they have right now.

Getting all my posts deleted by there so called moderators, OP's reworded and moved to other sections of the forum etc etc.

Its a massive sham, the CCL guys are essentially trying to oppress anyone who has an opinion on the forums that dont involve rainbows and bunny rabbits.

CCP, what are you thinking? I can't even ask 2 questions on the forum that i've been trying to ask for 3 days now. Is it because im a goon and your CCL guys dont like it?....

This is very open to abuse, from extreme tinfoil hattery levels right down to simple cases of an individual with his own very limited views and opinions deleting posts he disagrees with and spitting out meaningless stock responses as justifications for it.

People sign up for various reasons, these have been explained by some users in this thread already. I will not go into any detail of why people volunteer for CCP, as that is a question in the interview process and i prefer unique answers to that question instead of a copy paste line that you may find here.

You might also want to edit out the leads@eve-ccl.net email adress you have in your signature as we do not answer player emails about moderation actions. Currently, the correct channel is to file a petition in the community category.

You can bet on it that there is some sort of compensation for volunteer work. The details about it shall remain between ISD and CCP. Though it is nothing that will give us an advantage over other players.

And no, i do not feel "crap at the minute". I try to make the best out of the situation and evaluate the history of past events and write feedback to my team about it.

Just one last serious question:

When someone applies to the CCL team, do you also look if the character has been sold in the bazaar in the last few months?

I ask this for the simple reason that a new player with a big wallet can easy sell a load of PLEX and then buy the character from an old bittervet or just someone else fed up with having characters which are trained for some newly nerfed profession.

This would mean a new player with no or limited grasp of the game with an older character.

Next to that there are people who buy accounts on places like Craigslist, E-Bay etc.
Is there a verification in place the accounts are legit?
