Misogyny is the dislike or hatred of females. I would say most male players in this game are not active haters of females, so misogyny is an improper term.

We make fun of EVERYONE, men are immature little turd monkeys that fling keyboard poo at everyone they see.. even our best friends.

You Are Not Special. Your Vagina Does Not Make You Special. Get Over It.

p.s. no girls in eve, pretty sure mintchip is bailey jay's brother.

One does not need to be an active hater to be a misogynist.

Just because you don't go out burning crosses, doesn't mean you aren't a racists either.

Actually one does have to be an "active hater" of women to be a misogynist, that's what the word means.

Someone can display a particular bias against women and not be a misogynist. The spectrum of bias against women and misogynistic behavior do overlap, but they are not the same thing.

As does the word Racist, but the point I originally made remains valid. If you want to adjust the term to "passive" racism or institutionalized Racism, that works as well, but the root cause and motivation remains the same.

This applies to hatred of women, just as much as it applies to hatred of other races or sexualities.

Weren't there like two females on the CSM? Didn't one of them cause drama by throwing a spoon at a goon or something?

There was in fact a female flinger of spoons! And I would be the other CSM female that has not yet been caught using tableware in in a similarly aggressive and unintended fashion! Also, two other corp mates are also female eve players. So there are some of us out there!

Let's say you are casting a movie and the character to be cast is an Asian male. You reject an applicant because she is a Caucasian woman. Much as I'd like to see CCP Punkturis in the movie, I'd submit that you are neither racist, nor misogynistic, but you are biased because discrimination is required to do the job properly.

The terms "misogynist" and "racist" have much more meaning if you don't try to make them mean everything.

Sigh... That said, your original point seems to have been "I think many men who play Eve are misogynists" which is an opinion and can't really be argued with. I can, and do, disagree with it, however.

Both words have very specific definitions.. if nothing I do falls into those definitions, then clearly I cannot be labeled by those terms. No matter how hard you wish to say so, just because you don't like the way I act.

you meant "female" players, not girl players. one is a noun, the other is an adjective.

And another thing. Why do people who are (hopefully) well past there twenties refer to themselves as boys and girls. News flash guys, we're not in kindergarten anymore. Most of us are men and women.

I encounter the same problem in real life when adult men refer to other people (the same age) as kids.

Some of us don't want to admit that we're past our twenties and we're getting grayer, thinner hair and that we've should be reading The Wall Street Journal instead of the comics from the local paper.

One thing I hate, is the feeling that women should hide their gender because of the attention it gives them. That's ridiculous - if people want to fawn over women, or give them things or act a fool in that regard - why is the woman always blamed and berated? In some cases, yes, someone may be using that to their advantage but in this day and age it is almost just the assumption. Even other females will make snide catty remarks at another female. Which is ridiculous.

I have never needed to hide my gender. I just don't go around screaming: "hey I'm a woman, look at me!" (not literally like that, but maybe the point is made) and asking for attention - I know very well some women in this game who do. I have seen them in local and I have seen them in fleets. It's not a bad thing to beg attention, but if you do, you need to be aware of the consequences. I don't know if it's my weird Finnish accent or what, but I don't usually get any "unusual" attention when speaking in comms. Only thing people ask is where I'm from! Let it be that way.

And nope, women are not always blamed because some people act stupidly when they are around. It's how you as a woman react when you receive that "attention". If you just ignore it and don't answer anything to those douche bags, they will stop it. And it hurts you always less when you simply don't take them seriously. I do agree that this kind of behavior from some members of male population of this game is extremely childish and lame. It's like bullying, but you know, bullies often give up when you don't pay any attention to them.

In terms of US law: It isn't illegal or misogynist to only hire women for women roles.

Quote:
Title VII prohibits sex discrimination in employment unless the employer can establish what's called a BFOQ or "Bona Fide Occupational Qualification." The EEOC Guidelines do allow intentional sex discrimination in hiring an actor or actress where the sex-specific roles are necessary for the "purpose of authenticity or genuineness," see 29 C.F.R. § 1604.2(a)(2).

Just as it is legal to not hire a jewish person to be a catholic priest. It is illegal to not hire a female jewish person for say, an accountant position at your all male catholic porn (adult novelty items, damn censors) shop.

I never claimed otherwise.

But if you're going to argue that the trolls making kitchen jokes aren't Misogynist, I disagree.

Those that are claiming that subtle Institutionalized discrimination has no roots in racism/misogynism/heterosexism are vastly naive about how white/male privilege in the world works. Any basic race/gender statistics can show you the discrepancies that exist.

Do any of you posters here get it? There are NO girls on the internet.

When Bon Scott died and he appeared before St. Peter at the gates of Heaven, St. Peter looked at his record and told him he couldn't get in. Just then, God screams at Peter, "Let him in, Karen Carpenter is driving me nuts. I want to hear some music with balls. We'll haggle over the paperwork later." At least I hope that's what happened.
