Defender Missiles after Inferno

Hi guys

Are there regular users of defender missiles around?
I know those missiles are not really popular and many people around me simply did not train skill for.

Anyway, I love those, especially on my ECM ships. Fitted in rocket launcher, defenders do not require lot of resources pg/ft and they are fired at a furious rate. That already saved my falcon many times especially when I engaged Caldari ships ^^

Unfortunately that was before inferno! Please correct me if I am wrong. Now defender are named heavy defender and they can only be fire with heavy launcher even not with HAM. That means more ft and pg are now needed to fire defenders at a much slower rate, right?

I was quite existing when I heard that ccp is working on defender missiles, those missiles have a real potential. I expected something that turns those missiles more useful. For instance it will be great if defenders intercept missiles targeting a ship in your fleet, not only your own ship. The most significant improvement that I expected for defender was to keep defender launchers activated. As you know if there is no missile running to you, the defender launchers turn off. Consequently in close combat you need to turn on your launchers between each hostile volley, which make defender poorly adapted to PvP.

Well, stop digression here, mourned enough! I am sure CCP has good motives to change defender missiles, but I do not see them? Does anyone could tell me what the goal/concept of this change?

Many Thanks

There are also light defender missiles, fired from light missile launchers. These are the pre inferno defender missiles. Heavy defenders are launched from heavy missile launchers and do more damage (so good for shooting torps and citadel missiles down)

I wouldn't mind seeing them changed to fire at missiles that are launched from ships you have targeted. Would actually make them viable to use in PvP then.

+1 to that. Though I could see it leading to 5 alts in kestrels/caracals spewing forth defenders to make you immune to missile ships :P

NPC defender missiles seem to have no effect, but I'm fine with that...

Enjoying the rain today? ;)
