The reason why RL females in this game get so much attention, free **** and money from all the dudes is because most of the dudes in Eve are virgin unemployed basement dwellers that have never / will never see(n) *****, so every time they interact with a female online it's like they discovered the meaning of life or something.

Pretty pathetic if you ask me, I know many women in this game but you won't ever see me give them special treatment just because they are women.

Hell, I make my girl change skills for me and mine and manage my market orders and contracts when I am gone from Eve for a long time.

****'s whack.

This guy is one of them ^^

What's the matter?

Don't like the fact that I don't give you resources and attention because you were born with a vagoo?

Or am I misunderstanding you?

This is why you are confused. Trans people have no more choice than gays, lesbians, bisexuals, or anyone else in the GLBT spectrum.

Misogyny at its best, because any woman who puts herself out there to express an opinion is instantly labeled an attention whore. Heaven forbid a woman embrace and promote her sexuality to anywhere near the extent men do, lest they be branded whores and sluts and shamed into submission.

The abuse, small minded attacks, and hatred lobbied towards Mint are a disgrace to gamers everywhere. It comes from people who've never met her, or ever bothered to talk to her, yet because she puts herself out there, you feel it justifiable to attack her appearance, as if that was at all relevant to her opinions, or relevance.

Why not debate her opinions, if you have the testicular fortitude, rather than bash her appearance, or does trying to match a female intellect scare you?

How often do 'guy gamers' make threads asking about how many other guy gamers there are?

Who gives a ****?

This thread is clear attention whoring and your crocodile tears fool no one. You're not a martyr for anything, neither is any other girl who acts like being a girl who plays a videogame makes her somehow better than the multitudes of other people who play the game. It would be best to remind yourself that if you want true equality, what you have between your legs doesn't make you special or somehow more desirable than anyone else who has the same hobby as you. Hence the thread is clearly attention whoring.

For most games I'm sure the number is pretty close to zero because the majority of games cater to 'guy gamers.'

If the ratio of guys in EVE was 5% I bet you dollars to dough nuts there would be a guys only channel. The point isn't gender its minority marginalization. Any subculture naturally binds together to form a safe space where like minds can congregate and relax. You see this in real life as well as eve. This thread, is asking about that subculture.

I don't know what you're talking about in terms of martyrdom. No one in this thread expressed the idea that girls were some how better or more deserving than men are of any thing. The point I made, is that the bullshit thrown at Mint, is unjustified and childish misogynistic behavior lobbied out by little boys afraid of a woman not scared of them.

All of these "doesn't make you special" comments, just serve to show your underlying bias and opinions, that no one really asked for. No one said women are better, or more deserving of attention. You're attacking a position no one is holding.

To further illustrate this, for comparison, if a Latino person came on the boards, asking for a latino based corp or chat channel, would you call the person an attention whore? What if the person was Asian, or African. What if they were anti-establishment, or politically liberal? Do they then get the right to form a justifiable sub-culture without being attention whores, or is it just women.

And who asked for your gender in the first place?

How can you claim the high ground when, after presenting your own gender in terms of wanted to be congratulated or given attention for it, are ridiculed and made fun of? Why join a game where the majority basis is men and then come out with the fact that, of no relation to the game itself, you are in fact a female, and then say you demand no special respect for such a statement?

How is this in any way a logical thing to do?

How does her/his gender influence in any way shape or form how you play with them or what they do in eve online?

Are we not reflections of our characters when in game? Does having a penis make me better at mining or pvp? Does having a vagina?

What is the reasoning for gender on the internet, and specifically gender inside of a video game where it simply does not matter?

When I ask these questions, the only way you can possibly come to a logical conclusion, is the innate desire for attention that a female has - I'm not faulting her on this - I'm simply confused why, when met with such hostility when bringing it up every time, women like this continue to use video games as an outlet beyond having fun. What's the point of getting attention from other people playing video games based entirely on the fact of your gender?

Better wardrobe coordination? (*badum-tish!*)
Asterixes and vaginas give no bonuses in this game, although a lot of Gallente ships give bonuses to hybrid turrets and drones.
There is gender on the Internet because people use the Internet and most people have some gender identity. (Laktos expands upon this nicely a few posts below.)
While I can't comment on any other instance of attention seeking you may be referencing, I'm not sure that gaining attention is the intention of this thread. I agree with PinkKnife's statement regarding minority marginalization. (Although I still fail to comprehend why she wanted an address for my confusion.)

Gender is important. Gender is a key part of our identity. Humans perceive the world through the context of our personal identity. So to say "gender does not matter on the internet or inside of a video game" and therefore there is no reason to bring it up is wrong.

Gender is never a reason to discriminate. You are correct in that anybody, regardless of gender has the same ability to become good at mining or pvp etc. But it is not our characters that are good at mining or pvp, it is ourselves. When I am involved in a pvp fight, I am acting through my character, but the skills of tactical awareness, using the right modules in the right situations, reflexes with the mouse and keyboard etc. These are all my skills, not my characters.

And so because it is me (the human sat at the keyboard) playing this game, my personal identity effects in some way, everything I do.

This is why gender is very relevant even in a video game, and it's part of the reason humans naturally seek out others of their gender to socialise with. Because we feel most comfortable interacting with things that are familiar to us, like people who have similar identities that we can relate to.

There is no need for men to start forum threads searching for other men, because they are everywhere in this game. But for a woman playing this game, it is natural to seek out others of the same gender to socialise with, but it is very hard to find another woman in this game (as they make up only about 5% of the playerbase) and there is also the added difficulty of many men using female avatars, and some women using male avatars, so finding other women visually is impossible.

And thus, she makes a forum thread.
