where did you get that 25% figure

From Here.

Fifth Chart.

The fifth chart asks the main reason people subscribe. Only one reason, and 25% said the main reason is pvp. However, that does not mean it is people's only reason. I for one select the sci fi/space mmo option. However, while playing eve my main fun and purpose is pvp. So basically, if there was no pvp I would gwt bored, settle on another mmo that is sci fi based. If eve also turned into a swords and sorcery style mmo, I would go elsewhere.

Your assumption, however, that those 25% are the only ones enjoying pvp is foolish. There are many out there, like myself, who hwho selected another main reason, but pvp is our 2nd or 3rd.

In other words, don't attempt to force meaning to statistics that do not apply.

I wasn't. The OP was quoting it. However, if PvP is the main reason you play, you should indicate such. What is sad is that none of the reasons that ranked higher than PvP are even good reasons...I mean, 54% play it because it's a MMO game...? Roll

Personally though, I think if the result had been 75% for PvP, people would be creating reasons as to why it is accurate and how it is only indicative of how Eve is PvP-centric. Whatever, like everything else, you can believe what you want and no one can convince you otherwise, so there is no point in arguing about it.

What if we hold many reasons with pvp being just one of them? I mean if I wanted straight up pvp I'd just play COD or something where you go from map to map killing.

But yeah, OP has 0 reading comprehension. The chart clearly states what influenced you to join eve. PvP certainly wasn't my influence when I joined years ago, hell I was downright terrified of getting in a fight back then, but now days I certainly enjoy it. My only regret is that I never have the time to truly get into it anymore.

So if the average EVE player has 2 alts plus a main, that 25% becomes 75% that quit.

*sigh* I am a high sec carebear. My main is a miner. That is what I do. I DO NOT SUPPORT THIS. Seriously. As much as this would be nice not having to worry about getting ganked when I am mining... to support the people that PVP, getting rid of PVP would make mining... well... worthless. Without people losing ships, no one would buy the minerals that I mine. Therefore.. I would not make any money.

To be honest it is not about making money for me. It is just about relaxing and taking my mind off the stress of my life. Had a bad day at work, relax in the belt. We all do things that we consider fun. For some, that is PVP. Go have fun, mine, mission, or PVP.

Truth, with no ships getting blown up, ships and mods will stop being brought once you have what you want
If you want to build without worry of dying, I hear MineCraft is good for that

But then, a survey of 2,400 is probably as useful as these 'national surveys' that ask 1,000 people randomly off the street which is suppose to tell what a nation of millions is feeling

Its an interesting (for me anyway) to contemplate an eve like game without PvP, a term I will use as short hand for PvP space combat.

First, no PvP, or no non-consensual PvP? Lets say just non-consensual PvP was eliminated, and only from high sec. (That is, jumping through a gate to low or null means you are giving consent). Would the game be very different from what it is now? All that would go away is suicide ganks. High sec wars would still exist as you can opt out of them by dropping corp.

If non-consensual PvP was eliminated from the entire game many many other changes would be needed or the game would just not work right. Industry and the economy work on a cycle of gather resources, build stuff, destroy stuff. The NPCs would have to be much more aggressive. Hot dropping mining ops in null, attacking POSes in high sec, random mega spawns in mission space. Also, other ways to remove a POS would be needed, and how sovereignty changes hands would have to be changed. Perhaps both would go to the highest bidder- at least that would suck ISK out of the game.

Now if such a game suddenly came into existence, how many eve players would move over to it? Would that cause a huge drop in CCP revenue? Should CCP make sure that does not happen by being the company that runs such a game?

I agree, PVP is scary. We should get rid of all PVP so we can run missions in safety.

I think I spotted the fail.

The major fail is that the entire gaming industry has failed to come up with a decent PvE FiS game.

So much so that PvE players are willing to risk PvP to play the best FiS game on the market.

But it is still a PvP game, even in high sec, 2 miners are competing "Player Versus Player" for the best market price on ore or for the best ore in a belt.

It is all PvP...

That was my thought. Rarely do people commit to activities solely for one reason alone.

Can't tell if OP is troll or serious.... Shocked

100% of the players in eve participate in PvP

Even market trading is PvP because everything is driven by the players and everyone is competing with everyone.

I didn't join EVE to do PVP (using the narrower definition of spaceship combat vs. other players).
But it sure as hell is why I play it now.

Yes. The fail is in your statistics.

PvP is the most liked activity in the game, enjoyed by some 75% of the players (a cleaned-up version of the graph is available here).

Oh, you mean the chart that says that they should remove PvE, since according to your logic fewer people are interested in it than in the Mac client. Roll
