Hi there,

I started playing EvE about 7 days ago and I am currently working my way through the career agents missions, but utimately I want to get into Logistics as I liek the sound of being the support etc.

Is this a good idea for a new player to head straight into this or should I work on some other skills first.

finally if anyone could point me in the direction of a skill plan or just give me some advice on how to get started with this i would be very thankful

Few things to consider: Logistics only work in fleets so you'll want to have options when you're alone otherwise you'll be bored to death waiting for friends to log on. Apart from that you'll want to have some form of income and it all depends on where and with whom you'll be flying what you're going to need for that. You also need to figure out which Logistics you'll be aiming for (first), armor or shield, the solo or the cap link version. That choice very much depends on, again, where and whom you'll be flying with and other than giving some guidance there really isn't much we can do for you there.

I wouldn't talk people into choosing Logistics as their first goal as it's too specific and too much focussed on fleets, you really should have some form of "basic training" like battlecruisers or similar to fall back on and THEN make the push towards Logis.

Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

I had a feeling that would be the response.

Thanks for your advice I guess I will look into something else I might enjoy first

Tech 2 Logistics requires (race) cruiser V, maxed or near-maxed capacitor skills, Long-range targeting, signature analysis, and fitting skills to V. It's also a good idea to be able to run a stable T2 tank at minimum.

The most popular races for T2 logistics are Amarr and Caldari (because of the energy xfer bonuses). So you'll be pretty close to a maxed T1 laser or missile cruiser, I would advise training whichever weapon system along the way so that you can run T2 and some T3 missions for money while you're training up your logistics skills. If you're going Caldari the individual ship bonuses aren't as important, so throw a few points into Battlecruisers and fit a drake, which can run L3 missions easily.

You can technically train whatever you want and use that for income, but I think the above is probably the fastest way to branch out and wastes the least of your time on non-logi skills.

Also, as the other guy mentioned, your primary resource as a Logi pilot is having someone to heal, i.e. a corporation. I'd probably start out in a new-player friendly mission runner corporation and just tag along in L4s with your T1 logi ship to get practice with general NPC aggression and so on, then once you can access the T2 ship jump to a corp running incursions for the next level of challenge. Once you're good with that, you might consider altering your fit and heading out into PvP, where you'll tend to get focus-fired and suppressed for the highest logi difficulty setting as it were.

Lost gives good advice. Although for small gang PVP the Mimatar and Gallente Logistics ships are often used because they are more self sufficient where as the Amarr and Caldari Logistics ships are dependent on cap transfer from another ship, so they have to work in teams and if one ship in the cap chain gets jammed by ECM it can mess things up big time. That being said the Amarr and Caldari ships are often preferred in larger fleets where there are more Logistics ships, and thus more redundancy.

As Lost said, train a Drake first as it can do most stuff like missions and PVP quite well and does not take a lot of training to fly. Then you have a ship that can do that stuff, and you can concentrate on Logistic training. Work on the Long-range Targeting, Signature Analysis, and fitting skills first while you look for a Corporation to join. Then ask your Corporation which race’s logistics ships they need. It is quick to train Cruisers to 4. It is that last push to Cruisers 5 that is really committing.

Edit: I would say that a Minmatar Logistics ship (Scimitar) is the most likely to allow you to fly logistics every day, as a single Scimitar can add a lot to level 5 missions or running Anomalies, and a pair of Scimitars can add a lot to a small PVP roam. Where as Amar and Caldari Logistics ships are used more in larger fleets which would not happen as often as the small stuff.

As logistics in PVE for incursions you can make money doing this.

In pvp you will either need to roll with people who replace your logistic ship losses and re imburse there pilots, or make your isk some other way.

Dont get discouraged. EVE always needs logistic pilots and with incursions they need them even more. In fleet fights of close to equal size several logistic will mean the difference between victory and defeat.

Amar + caldari logistics for incursions
Gallente + Minmitar for PVP

Now you know what to train for. While you train for it running mission or playing the market and finding a good corp should occupy your time.
